What do you guys think about salaries?

Highest paid player last year was KG followed by Shaq!

Earning half their amount is Kobe, and even further down the list is T-Mac and Tim Duncan!

I dont get it, sure the teams need to pay players more to get them to leave their teams and come to theirs but skill level is still a major issue.

It almost looks like some players are only in it for the money and others aren't!

    What do you guys reckon?

Another interesting fact i just found was that the salary cap has grown from 3.6 million in 84-85 to 43.84 million in 03-04

Yes, the US dollar has increased
and its becoming a more popular sport

but it still leaves the question? would there be as many players in the NBA or playing as well as they do today if they weren't in it for the money and not for the love of the game???

I hope KG doesnt expect a raise in his salry cause no team is going to shell out more than 18 million for him next year. Because of his outrageous salary they werestuck in the first round.

Alonzo, juwan , Scottie, and Karl dont makethat much, they did last year but thise year each of them has taken a major paycut,
    Pippen 5 mil
    Karl 2 mill
    Juwan 5 mill
    Alonzo 5 mill

that adds up to 17 million compared to the combined whopping 80 MILLION they were makin last year

Does Bryant Reeves salary cap count on the Grizzlies cap. I though if u retired u still get paid but it doesnt count on the cap. If Grant Hill retires will the Magic still have his money on their cap.

it still counts on the cap space. that is why the raptors still have hakeem's huge contract.

Of course they're in it for the money. Once they've got more than anyone can possibly spend, they'll take a pay cut and sign for a winning team if they haven't already (Malone, GP)

Alot of those salaries are from when players signed contracts to teams before there was a maximum limit on a contract imposed(i.e. KG)

i think the salary comes off the cap after they retire, but the team still pays the player, it just doesnt count count towards the cap, I remember hearing that if Grant Hill retires the magic would get his 13 million to spend on a big time FA next summer. does any one know if thats true or not.

I believe the salary comes off the cap when the player's contract runs out....Thats why the Knicks had to wait to long for Luc Longley and Larry Johnson contracts to come off their cap...

Yea but when they paid him he was like one of the 5 best big men, a bigger waste is Zydrunas Ilgauskas 13 million, what has he ever done, although i give him credit for coming back from a possible career threatning injury and making the allstar team in the depleted east. haha.

TD just got a new contract worth 17 million a year. but guess what even 17 million is not enough for what he does. He is in my mind the best in the league by far. And I am not a huge Duncan fan just giving him his dues.

No, Duncan isn't making 17 million a year.

He is making $12,676,125 this year, with 12% raises.
