The Mavericks will add a veteran point guard to backup Steve Nash. They have 3 players in the race, Travis Best, Kenny Anderson, & Rod Stickland. Travis Best is the front-runner, but he is being pursued by teams who can offer him more.

Those 3 would be great fits to back-up Nash at PG..Best is a good back-up guard..can push the ball and find his team-mates well...Kenny Anderson is the same..

problem is that those PGs r shoot first PGs and dallas really needs to spread the ball around with all those scorers. both of those players get critisized bcuz they dribble too much and the motion offense gets stuck.

im not saying those players are bad players. i just dont think dallas is the right team for them.

Best and Anderson are shoot first PG's? since when? They have always been known as guards who feed their team-mates the ball and push when they can...true point guards.

ur the first person that said they were "true point guards". i hope u dont make that assumption bcuz they r short players. they r in a true point guard's body but they play like 2guards.
both players can score quite well but cannot find their teammates very well....

they r not good distributers. anderson may not score too much but Best can score at will.

The most PPG through a season Best has ever scored is 11PPG...Both may not get really high assists but that doesn't mean they aren't true point guards..Infact earler in his career Kenny Anderson was averaging 8 and 9 asissts a game..he is a true PG

According to the Dallas Morning News it looks like Best is the frontrunner as shape has pointed out:

I think Best would become and excellent back-up for the Mavericks. He has experience and he wont be asked to score alot for them. This would be a great move if the Mavs can sign him so they can fill up their backup point guard postion void.
