Pacers fire Isiah Thomas as coach.. ...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Indiana Pacers announced Wednesday that Isiah Thomas will not return as head coach for the 2003-04 season. His contract, which had one year remaining, will be honored.

"We have decided to go in a different direction," said Pacers President and CEO Donnie Walsh, who added the search for a replacement will begin immediately.

Thomas became coach of the Pacers in July 2000 after Bird fulfilled his three-year contract as coach. In those three years, Thomas' record as head coach was 131-115 (.532). The Pacers made the playoffs in each of those three seasons, but did not advance past the first round.

About time hey...Rick Carlisle will likely be the new coach I feel..As Larry Bird loves him and he was Larry's assistant when Pacers made the finals..

i hated isaih too! he should go back to broadcasting.
for the pacers new coach candidates could include rick carilse and maybe even lenny wilkins. i think rick would be a good fit in indiana.

I figured this'd happen ever since Bird came back as president of basketball operations (that's it right?). Carlisle would be VERY good for the Pacers.

Carlisle would be great for any job... shoulda had a job already in the first place... I thought they would have gave Isiah at least 1 shot to get deep into the playoffs...

Wasnt one of the reasons Jermaine O'neal resigned because they kept Ishiah? [IMG]

I think so. Before the postseason was over, he said he wasn't gonna stay unless Isaiah stayed too.

They said on ESPN that Jermaine said he was very angry and that he wouldn't have re-signed if he knew this would happen... But he didn't say he would demand a trade.

^I really doubt anyone else was going to give him the money that the Pacers just did. I'm sure he can handle this..
