GM Mitch Kupchak has signed a contract extension believed to be at least four years long, the Los Angeles Times reported Aug. 21, citing sources within the team. The team has not made an official announcement and Kupchak refused comment, the Times reported. After the 1999-2000 season, Kupchak succeeded Jerry West as GM and had a year remaining on his original four-year deal.

Why are we keeping Mitch "I don't have the balls to make a deal" Kupchak? [IMG]

Karl Malone did a better job as GM, at least he landed us Gary Payton!

I don't really think Mitch is that great of a General Manager. He inherited West's team of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal. True, he signed Malone and Payton but I doubt he had very much to do with that situation. Can someone remind me of a trade he has done? It will be very interesting to see how the Lakers are in 2004-05. That is when Bryant, Malone, P.Jackson, Payton, and maybe even S.O'Neal will be gone. If Kupchak has any talent it will be displayed then.
