This year will be bad enough for Kobe with this whole case thing going on, but he also has to think bout next season. Who will he play for? Or will he resign? Will anyone want him now? Will he get to play at all? [IMG] I can see many teams going after Kobe even with his problems now. The team I think he may sign with next yr maybe the Grizzles cuz of Jerry West, but I really do wish he would be on the Kings cuz that's my dream! Kobe and Gerald side by side! Now back to reality, he will never sign with the Kings, may not be playing much this yr, and may not be able to help the Lakers win another ship! Personally I think none of that will happen after he is set free and renews his image to an O.K guy, not the great guy we once knew! What do u guys think?

its not like no ones going to want him. hell play this year and will have another great season. hes rich enough to ensure the trial does not interfere with his season. I think though that he will end up playoing for jerry west and the grizzlys. needs to get out of shaqs shadow if he wants to prove hes an all time great

But why would he want to leave?
He should get another ring this season, he's got a family now and could get on just fine with Karl, GP and Shaq. He'd want to go to a contender but none of them could afford him. Except San Antonio if they cleared a small amount of cap space. Would he want to go there? Maybe if they signed KG to a minimum like the Lakers did Karl. But that wont happen, the Wolves are gonna be a superpower for a while now.

Kobe's been talking about getting out of Shaq's shadow for a while... but doing that after next year, would IMO be silly. The Lakers signed GP and Karl both to 2 year deals. Shaq easily has another 3-4 years left in the league. By then, Kobe will be in his prime- around 28. He can take over the Lakers then.
If I'm Kobe though, I understand his situation. All the doubters and critics say that he's the Robin to Batman, even though he knows that he is a better player than Shaq. If he wants to pursue personal success over another team championship, he'd leave the Lakers. However, understanding Kobe and his team-first attitude, I feel that he's going to stay with the Lakers unless something happens next season which makes him leave.

Sounds reasonable. If he doesn't stay it would be a shame for the Laker's franchise.

I totally agree. Right now Kobe understands that this is Shaq's team. And with the acquisition of GP and Malone, it would be a very stupid move to leave when he so badly wants to take back the throne.

One interesting thing is the fact that Kobe has chosen to not sign his extention with LA. This can be a good thing or a bad thing:

    The Good:
That year, there will be the expansion draft. The way it works is each team is entitled to hold 8 players from the draft...everyone else is fairgame. Now, with Kobe being a freeagent at the time, the Lakers will not have to use one of their 8 slots on him because technically he is not a Laker. Someone please correct me on this one if I am wrong.

    The Bad:
Maybe Kobe's desire and ego will make him seriously consider leaving LA. I am optimistic that he won't leave but should there ever be some serious crap within the Lakers Organization, he has the option to leave that year.

Who knows? Kobe is a very smart kid...however, he's got a lot of fire in his heart that wants him to be the greatest player ever.

I think that Kobe Bryant will re-sign with Los Angeles. I think this mainly because there will be very few teams with enough cap room to sign Kobe Bryant next season. Off the top of my head those teams are the Atlanta Hawks and the Utah Jazz. However, there could be others. If Bryant does re-sign then it is very likely that it is for a short term contract. Maybe even a one year deal which would give Bryant an opportunity to have a greater selection of teams the next time around.

Being a Grizzlies fan I have to comment on the possibility that Bryant comes to Memphis. I think it is very possible. Everyone knows that Bryant and West have a deep-rooted relationship. The only thing holding Bryant back from signing with Memphis is the Grizzlie's salary cap situation. The Grizzlies will most likely be over the salary cap by the time Kobe Bryant becomes a Free Agent. This doesn't mean that Memphis can't still get Kobe Bryant though. There could always be a trade. If Los Angeles is notified that Bryant will not resign with them then I believe they will try to work out a trade with Memphis so that they can atleast walk away with something.

The worst case scenario is that Kobe Bryant gets convicted of sexual assult. Then he is stuck playing for the Denver Nuggets.
