Download either adaware or spybot and run them occasionally. Also you can go into the cookies folder & erase those you think are crap. I do all this and it does seem to help. Further, your ISP may have some tools that can accessed from its start page.

BA is right...Adaware, which can be found http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910...page&tag=button is a pretty good program for getting rid of that stuff. Also, Spybot Search and Destroy, which can be found http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html is a really good program as well.

After you get rid of these pop-ups, you should download a good pop-up blocker. I personally use the one that Google gives for free in their toolbar. But first you need to get rid of the spyware software that you have.

I also use adaware and spybot, but I've not been able to update spybot lately, whereas adaware always has new updates. I use them religiously, and I also don't download much from the internet. Most of the "free" games and such come with a lot of spyware. Also, a good antivirus program will catch spyware and notify you about it. Sometimes it can get rid of it, but sometimes it can't, and it's up to you to go in and change registry settings and such. Most of the time, you don't need to reformat, but need to fight the popups and do some online searches for fixes. For the most part, Norton and other companies have "fix it" programs to download and help.

not a direct link, but a google of "adaware" should get you set. If nothing else search for it on C-Net, they will have a legit site to download.

However, the way your machine seems to be acting, don't be surprised if Adaware can't remove it. Some of the worst ones I've had, adaware couldn't remove them, and didn't even see them. My antivirus picked them up. Unfortunately, that ONLY showed me the files that were causing trouble, it couldn't delete them because the had embedded themselves as a system file, so you had to futz with the registry and delete the files from windows BEFORE windows could load. And I don't remember how to do that. Found it online somewhere. Anyway, give adaware a shot, and if it doesn't work, you may have to do a virus scan as well. The AV I have is Norton '04, I would assume others also have spyware/adware detection in the definitions as well these days.

PF, I don't know why the links weren't working. I fixed them...they should work now. Good luck getting it fixed...that spyware stuff is horrible. I personally think there should be fines for that sort of thing. I do know that the Gator Corporation was getting sued for their spyware.

do everything you can to get rid of those 12 other things. The hardest ones to get rid of are the ones that cause the most annoyances.

Ummm...are you running windows? If you've only rebooted 4 times since June first that is really good. Window's naturally will crash over time.

Doesn't matter...Windows is a fickle operating system. The more you use it, the more it becomes unstable. I personally have to restart my computer every couple of days at best and I got my computer in March.

If you want something that will stay up forever, look to linux.

Do you mean reboot or reformat?

    Most people reboot often.

    Most people reformat rarely.
