All of guys making fun of Steve Smith are a bunch of little kids. Anyone who knows game and watched Smith back in his prime would show some respect. He might be a step or two slower, but given the minutes, off the bench he could easily give the Raps 8-12ppg.
Basically what I mentioned...Sjax and Manu are younger they were given the chance and played very well..Smitty can still give a team some three-point shooting off the bench..He still averaged nearly 7PPG even when being the 3rd SG for the team..while shooting around 34% from three

Why not sign Bill Walton, we have respect for his game though he is old. Please don't tell me you would expect Smith to score 8-12 point per game? He could have done that for the Spurs and remained a starter, but could not.
Raja was one of my favourite players last year on the Mavs. He can score in bunches and is a good defender. Walt Williams who also played for Mavs last year is also a good consideration. If GG signs anyone of these guys it will truly top off the summer in a good way. No more, What ifs? Besides a true big man, all the pieces of the puzzle will be put together. O'Neil will have everyone playing at full potential.

Backup SG=more minutes=easy 8-12ppg.

You don't want to have a smackoff with me young one, as I have much more mature things to handle here. Remember to take a deep breath and count to 10 before you reply in threads people (and in Mr. Raindrop's case, read profiles before mouthing off on someone's age, its unprofessional)
Only two years ago Smitty averaged 11.6 points per game on 47% three-point shooting...thats pretty good....He only averaged 7PPG last season because of limited playing time and of course the play of Sjax and Manu.....He is older now and as each year goes back he might be losing a step..but to say he could average 8-12 points per game is not unrealistic.
Ok, people here have given their opinions as to who the Raptors should get if they needed a shooting guard and why their pics are the best. That?s al fine and good but my question is do the Raptors actually need another SG? Vince is obviously great when healthy (and could beat most of us in a game of one on one even with a busted knee) and then there's Mo Pete. Everybody loves to hate this guy and I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan but he does have the makings of a good player. A recent picture of KO and Mo Pete made allowed me to dare dream of better things to come. The knocks on Mo Pete have been his poor shot selection and his lack of consistency. These are two things a good coach should be able to correct easily. I?m holding on to my belief that the Raptor SG slot is not the position of weakness that some people think it is. Personally I think that PG and Center are the places where this team needs to look at itself. Also consider the fact that if the Raptors were able to get themselves a good PG Alvin could move over to SG. So I?d like to put it out there that the Raptors should be looking for a PG not a SG.
Steve Smith is so motivated to prove to everyone that he still has game. Smith is definetly not content with winning a Championship the way he did last year. Like I said before, given some quality m's off the bench Smith will definetly give u 8-12ppg.

I like what How High said. I think Mo Pete can back up both Sf, and Sg (thats obviously if Lamond starts which IMO he should). This way it would give him more minutes by rotating when they go off, and in a situation where they are both off, you could always bring in Chris Jeffries. I think that choice would be the best because our roster is already packed, so I think signing another player is out of the question. By giving Mo the opportunity to switch backing up sg and sf, this will give him more time to clean up his errors that he usually makes while playing, but still can be a good player.
SG is the LAST thing we need. If anything, we need a better PG and a more reliable centre. We got Vince, Mo and Lamond as our top three scorers, what more do you need?
Mr.Community (aka Smith) would be the perfect fit for the Raptors and I may be his biggest supporter. I have loved his game ever since I was a MSU fan (Smith went to MSU) living in Atlanta (Smith was a Hawk). Smith is a great veteran who could teach the young players like Morris Petterson some fundementals. Just because Smith is older doesn't mean that he is weak, not motivated, or unable to keep up with the younger players of today's game. He is in prime condition and ready to play. The only reason he did not recieve time in San Antonio was because he was playing with two other budding stars in Manu Ginobili and Stephen Jackson. If you took just one of those players off of the Spurs then you'd see Smith averaging ten to eight points per game. I mean, who doesn't want a guy that donates millions to charities every year?

The PG position is complete, all u can do hope that GG knows what he is doing. Unless we deal Davis this is good as the C spot gets. Its too bad none of C's have much of offensive post skills. Davis will provide the muscle, experience, scoring, and rebounding even though he is not playing his true postion. Moiso and Johnson will block a lot of shots and grab boards. Bateer can also provide some size and Bradley will also see some time at C. We need to get a 4th swingman, another scorer, preferabally a SG. I know that Alvin can play some 2, but I think he should stick to the 1 since he is too thin. Jefferies should not even be considered as an option, hes just flat out pathetic. The reality is we need another SG.
I still think our need is at the 1 and the 5 but... I would have been happier to have read about picking Smith up than I was reading about many of the other transactions the Raptors have made this summer. Smith has seen what it takes to win and as Wave said he could help by teaching Mo Pete a thing or three. It never hurts to add a winner to your team.

Good to see Wave agrees with what I have mentioned...I hope Smitty gets a team soon....He is a class act....Him and D-rob give up alot of money to alot of different charities....They deserve respect for that....If Smith goes to Heat..I wish him the best...If Raptors have/had a chance to get him they should...If not...It's their loss
Rowan Barrett? That's crazy talk! Any Shooting Guard that you get this late in the game will likely not be a contributer or get much time. They will be needed for leadership and accountability incase someone gets injured. Those are two things that Smith brings to the table that Barrett doesn't.
The best thing Smith would bring to the table is to teach Vince Carter something about commitment. Which would be huge.
