The owners of the Sacramento Kings donated $100,000 to Gov. Gray Davis' anti-recall committee this week, campaign finance records show.
The donation on Tuesday was made as a bill that could provide a way to fund a downtown arena for the basketball team landed on Davis' desk.

Campaign records show the Kings Arco Arena Limited Partnership made the donation; that is the same group that donated $100,000 to the governor in 2001.
Calls to Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof, as well as to Kings President John Thomas, were not returned.

Richie Ross -- a Sacramento lobbyist and political consultant who counts among his clients Assemblyman Darrell Steinberg -- the Sacramento Democrat who wrote the legislation -- the Maloofs and Mayor Heather Fargo, said he knows nothing about the arena bill or the contribution. He noted that he's "otherwise involved" in Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante's run for governor in the Oct. 7 recall election.</div>

Well @least its for a new arena...

question for ppl in sac, do they really need a new arena?

A new arena is nothing new, there has been talk of a new arena for the past year. The city came to the Maloofs and asked them how they would feel about a new arena. They need a new arena if Sacramento ever wants to host All-Star weekend (ARCO is too small) and the city wants to make a new arena the center piece of a downtown renewal project. The site that has been chosen is an old railyard in the heart of downtown. For those of you who have never been to Sac, the current arena is kind of on the outskirts.

When you ask about the new arena, these are the concerns:

    1. Money. How are you going to pay for it? This is addressed in the piece of legislation the mentioned in the article.

    2. Atmosphere. If they build a new ARCO, it better be just as loud as the one we have now. This is very important.

    3. Location. Can you get in and out? You can get in and out of ARCO with some ease because of it's current location, will that be the story if it's in the heart of downtown?

    Thanx SacKid...

isnt SAc's arena one of the worst to play in if youre the away in because of the atmosphere?

as for the ease of getting in why not do waht toronto does. @ the main trains tation theres a short(very short) walking link to the ACC.
