Take heart Dolphins fans! I don't think Ricky's going to retire... I'm guessing he's going to "change his mind" when the Dolphins ask him to pay back $8 million to compensate them for his retirement. He's traveling around the world now, too. He's going to come back to camp before pre-season and say how he got it out of his system and that he couldn't do it to the fans. Merchandising people are already screaming about having to put his jerseys on clearance. Ugh... His mom's disappointed with him, too. She says she supports him fully, but even she's kind of like "huh?" about the whole thing. I think it's a hoax and it will blow over. Miami hasn't put him on the reserved/retired list yet and I'm betting they won't. They'll lure him back by saying "please...just play this year so we can replace you next year in the draft or free agency." Ricky will play this year. I really think so.
I bet its a plan to retire untill Ricky gets the pot out of his system, then hell come back. both sides know exaclty what their doing

Guys, while i wish this was just a hoax on Rickys part, he is retiring. Im pretty good friends with several UT players including Cedric Benson who talks with ricky one or two times a week and this isnt just something he decided to do out of the blue. He first began thinking bout it about 8 months ago according to Cedric and according to the press he told retired Vikings running back Robert Smith 6 months ago that he was gonna retire. About the whole pot thing, i dont really know what Ricky does in his personal life but i have talked with him before and he is a very very inteligent guy and a very deep thinker. Even if he did smoke pot when he failed his test, that had little or nothing to do with this decision. Ricky just wasnt happy with being in the spotlight cause he isnt that type of guy. Even if he has to give back 8 million, that will not effect his bank account very much. He has plenty of money and from what i know invested it very wisely.
I hear Ricky has been reading alot of Philosphy. If that's the case, He's been thinking about it for awhile, he sure as hell should have told someone. Who wants to screw you'r boss like that?
I think RObert Smith was an influence on his decision. Just my opinion, but I can't believe that more people aren't mentioning that. They aparently had developed a friendship, and started to share the same kind of feelings about athlete "heros."
Just read this on ESPN Williams told the newspaper that marijuana played a larger role in his retirement than he indicated when he walked away after just five pro seasons. He said he learned of the failed test and possible suspension days before telling coach Dave Wannstedt last week that he was through playing. Sounds like if that's the case then he may be persuaded to come back.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Bleedblk&gld)</div><div class='quotemain'>He failed his drug test cause he knew he was going to quit.</div> lol, I laughed at that when I read it on ESPN too.
thats the quote of the day, "I didn't quit football because I failed a drug test," he said. "I failed a drug test because I was ready to quit football." i had tears i was lauging so hard
