Mourning could of been a sixer... But only if larry brown was the coach.. http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/7016694.htm OUCH..tough break for you guys...
Yeah, there were talks about him coming to Philadelphia, but I didn't know why he didn't come. I understand Mourinings decision but I would surely take Allen Iverson over Jason Kidd, even though he is a great floor leader. Why is that something to thank Allen for. Larry did not leave the Sixers organization because of Allen, he has had small stints with a lot of teams in the NBA. That's just his style, he takes on a below .500 team and pushes them into the playoffs.
Obviously you don't remember the press conference. Brown commented on how he could not pass on the Pistons because they value team first and play as a unit, he said that was refreshing. AI then responded by saying that the Sixers were a better team in his opinion a day later. Nice knock by Brown. The "short stint" thing is overrated. There comes a time where the bridges are burnt, and it was ashes here.
I think Larry and AI had your typical love, hate relationship in Philly. Larry Brown sees all the potential in Iverson, but he finally realized AI simply will not change his ways for him, the team, or the fans. Ironically this past off-season Iverson bulked up, I'm sure it had everything to do with Larry Brown no longer being there.
I agree shape, maybe it was best that these 2 guys did not work together. Iverson's play for Team USA was awesome too, hope it was a sign of things to come.
