    Antonie Walker Traded to Dallas...

The Celtics have traded Antoine Walker and Tony Delk to the Mavericks for Raef LaFrentz, Jiri Welsch, Chris Mills, and Dallas' 2004 first-round draft pick, according to the Dallas Morning News and radio station..more details to follow

Terrible trade for Boston..Dallas are stacked..but only on offence..Their defence keeps getting worse

But This makes things even more interesting in the west...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics agreed on a five-player deal that sends All-Star forward Antoine Walker and Tony Delk to the Mavericks for three players, including Raef LaFrentz.

The deal also includes guard Tony Delk going to Dallas and Chris Mills and Jiri Welsch heading to the Celtics, who also will get Dallas' first-round draft pick in 2004

Walker, a three-time All-Star, has spent the first seven years of his career in Boston, where he has averaged 20.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. He will split time at forward with All-Star Dirk Nowitzki and Jamison.

Delk, a reserve guard, will give the Mavericks more depth at point guard behind All-Star Steve Nash and Travis Best, another offseason acquisition. Delk has averaged 9.1 points and 2.0 assists per game over his seven-year career with five different franchises.

LaFrentz has averaged 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds a game in six seasons with the Denver Nuggets and Mavericks.

    </div>

Dallas has no center...They have to have another trade in the works..

    Nash
    Finley
    Jamison
    Walker
    Dirk

Has amazing offence but those set of players are terrible on defence..and do Dallas seriously expect Dirk to play center? This trade doesn't really help either team..

Let's start calling them the Boston Jayhawks, Pierce & LaFrentz reunited. Dallas got the better end of this deal, but they must have another trade worked out. I cannot see this team improving unless they get a solid big man. I'm not sure who's left out there to start at center, Theo Ratliff maybe?

Boston trades an All Star player for a decent player. LaFrentz should do well in the East, but who else besides Pierce is going to give them 20+ a game and create the offense Walker creates. Maybe they are counting on Vin Baker to contribute this season, scary thought if you are a Boston fan.

Great! The loss of Jiri Welsch gives Marquise Daniels a guaranteed spot in the rotation. The Mavs must be in the hunt for a big man. Another trade should definetly be in the works.

    Antoine Walker traded to Dallas

The Dallas Mavericks bulked up an already strong offense Monday, acquiring All-Star forward Antoine Walker from the Boston Celtics in a five-player trade.

The Celtics agreed to take center Raef LaFrentz and the four years remaining on a $69 million, five-year contract signed before last season.

The Celtics also get Jiri Welsch and Chris Mills, players the Mavericks got in an offseason trade that also brought Antawn Jamison from Golden State, and Dallas' first-round pick in 2004. The Mavericks will get guard Tony Delk from Boston.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban confirmed the deal to The Associated Press, saying it was pending league approval.

Who on dallas is going to guard any big men??
Geez.. they might average 140 pts per game but finley is the only guy on that roster who even sort of plays defense

dumb trade for both teams, IMO. dallas has no center and celtics have no 2nd scoring option. both teams have to have a trade in the making. stay tuned for some more trades, hopefully.

this trade only sounds good for Dallas on paper, but it really sucks. they gave up their only post defender. Plus they cant start Jamison, Walker, Dirk because they cant guard any of the teams in the west with dominate post players.
Walker or Jamison will have to go to the bench I dont think the player that goes to the bench will adjust well. They added Walker who needs 20 shots to be affective, he wont get that on the mavs. Walker serves no use if he isnt scoring look at last years playoff performance against the nets. The Mavs need a go to post player to make up for the fact that they shoot so many jumpers. Walker has power forward size(well he lost a few pounds)but his post game is weak. And tony Delk also serves no use he is another jump shooting scorer. He isnt really a point I guess he surpose to replace Van Exel as the scoring guard when the mavs play small ball playing two point guards but delk doesnt score as consistent as Van exel and isnt as quick so it wont work like it use to the Mavs got better on paper and worse in reality.

hmmm! What a trade for Dallas! I think you are all worrying about center too much. With a team like this, who needs a center? Three of the front court guys can easily get 10 rebounds a game. Also, each can get 20+ ppg.

Dirk, can easily draw a normal center away from the basket and force him to play the perimeter. There are very, very few good centers in the league, besides shaq and maybe Zydrunas Ilgauskas in cleveland. And of course the up and coming Eddy Curry and Yao Ming. The rest are all very average or a little above average, Jamal Magloire, Kurt Thomas, Brad Miller, Theo Ratlif etc etc...

I think that the Mavs will prove(or have they already? Didn't Raef miss half the season?) that you can win this league with out a pure center (which Raef wasn't anyway...)

I also think you are all wrong and that the Mavs are done trading, until maybe in season (depending on how they are doing)

Mavs starting lineup looks like this:
    SF 6-9 226 Antawn Jamison 22ppg 7rpg
    PF 6-9 245 Antonie Walker 20ppg 8rpg 5apg 1.5stlpg
    C 7-0 245 Dirk Nowitzki 25ppg 10 rpg 1blkpg 1stlpg
    SG 6-7 225 Michael Finley 20ppg 5rpg 4apg 1.2stlpg
    PG 6-3 195 Steve Nash 17ppg 7apg 1stlpg

what a team! Who needs defense, when you'll be scoring 300 points ppg?

And Boston? Who knows what they're doing? Paul Pierce must be pissed. Trading for Raef is just like trading for Tony Battie IMO

You need defence to win championships..and you also need a great post player these days to be sucessful.Which is why the Lakers and Spurs have dominated the title the last 5 seasons....Great defence and two MVP/great post players in Shaq and Duncan.

The Mavs starting 5 has amazing scoring power..but they can't stop anyone.....You need defence in the playoffs....Although they will be very exciting to watch.

Thats what I'm talking about BBall Guru, natural Centers are a thing of the past, they died off in the Ewing, Robinson, Olajuwon, Mutumbo prime era. Mourning has always been a PF in my opinion as well. Hell, would be sick to see what % of the league is using a few power forwards for centers, the % would shock you. Plus, who is saying that will be the starting lineup? To me Walker will come off the pine. Dallas has a guy that can grab 13 boards a game in Danny Fortson. If they start Dirk at the PF and Jamison at the SF that is a lot of size, speed, and talent to deal with. Dallas can come at you from any angle of the court, no matter what D you play. Zone they will shoot it over you every time, who wants to play this team man to man? Raef was a BUST in Dallas, yes he has a pf body but he wants to be a slow 2 guard. Myself, like Dallas got sick of his soft play, lack of D and rebounding.

Oh and about Shaq, what center/pf can stop him anyway? Thats a joke, The Big Fella does what he wants against anybody.

The Mavs improve the most they get another scorer and good assist man. Mavs still have two good centers bradley and fortson shaun is a great shot blocker and fortson is a rebounding machine.
