<div class="quote_poster">Quoting King James:</div><div class="quote_post">The top teams in the west would not destroy each other, the games would be close and exciting, is that not what we want as fans? Lets play ball!</div> Didn't say they would..I said players with very good big men will destroy Dallas inside not that the games will be blowouts...The starting 5 the Mavs have now is stacked on offense..but their Defense will be even worse than last year...Walker and Jamison are terrible defenders...Will see what happens though Although Don Nelson recently said Jamison will come off the bench Make what you want of that.... And hell yeah the Mavs will be exciting..
Uh, I don't really want to talk about this trade from a Boston POV, all I can say is Danny Ainge trying to give Red Auerbach a heart attack or does he not know basketball?
Well, enough Dallas talk, anyone want a shot to explain why Boston did this deal? Are they still a playoff team? I have them sliding down after this deal.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting King James:</div><div class="quote_post">Well, enough Dallas talk, anyone want a shot to explain why Boston did this deal? Are they still a playoff team? Thats the question...Pierce will know what it is like to be T-mac this year though..
With Pierce hey can contend, but now the role players and rookies must step up as well as Raef and Vin playing like we know they can. Maybe too many questions for this team now.
From Boston's perspective? Rebuilding before Walker loses his trade value is clearly what they were trying to do. The only thing that I don't understand is why they got the players that they did. Potentially, Pierce is allowed to shine to his full potential. Team-wise? I don't see much success coming from this, at least not for a few years.
What I don't get is they turned down Thomas and Spree for Walker yet agree to a walker,Delk for Raef,Welsch and Mills? makes no sense...
The media will be looking for Ainge to get some more detail, I'll be nosing around for more official reports. I did catch Around The Horn, everybody sold Boston's end of the deal.
What I don't get is why people say they lost their only form on post defense (speaking of the Mavs). What post defense did they have before? Don't tell me LaFrentz provided that. Sure he got some blocks, but did he intimidate anyone from going inside? Nope, not at all. So what happened was that the Mavs went from having an already bad defensive frontcourt to having an almost equally bad defensive frontcourt with more firepower. Also, defense does not win championships. The best combination of offense and defense wins championships.
When I first heard of this trade going down, I thought that the Mavs made a really bad move. Now, I'm starting to think that it's not a bad deal- I completely agree with sunsfan. Although they can't stop the Shaqs or TDs, no one else can stop them. Not even the deepest teams in the league like the Kings or the Lakers. When the Mavs play another team, since neither team can stop the other, expect amazingly high scores! I'm talking about 130-140 points, regularly! As fans we should love this trade.
well all i can say is i gotta get some mavs on my fantasy team. . they will score a lot and i think they will prob be 1 seed, they will still lose in the playoffs because of their lack of defense. some team will be able to shut down some of their offense, which would force the mavs defense to step it up, but it sucks, so they'll lose.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting sportsrock37:</div><div class="quote_post"> some team will be able to shut down some of their offense, which would force the mavs defense to step it up, but it sucks, so they'll lose.</div> (Follow the sarcasm here people) "Nuff said" Last season, Dallas was 16th in the league in OPPG, ranked ahead of teams like the lakers and Kings. Lets not forget that the Mavs also lead the league in scoring, and when you score a lot, you also give the other team more chances to score. I am sick of hearing the lack of D debate, its overrated.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BBall Guru:</div><div class="quote_post">You mean defense? Unless you are Britist I think you spell it with an S..... I think other teams have to worry about stopping the Mavs. Not the Mavs stopping other teams. Is Shaq going to step outside and defend Dirk, when Dirk can blow right past him? Don't think so. Is Tim Duncan, going to step out and guard Antoine when Antonie can blow right by him??? The mavs don't play the greatest defense, but who's going to defend against them? No matter how good you are, you can't stop a offense like this.</div> yes you can...first of all...Shaq won't guard Dirk in the perimeter...somebody else on the Lakers will...Antoine blowing by Duncan? haven't you heard of the San Antonio zone defense? come on man...the Mavs will shoot jumpers all day...then the other team will bang them inside...they score, they let the other team score as well...but what if they're shooting blanks??? offense wins game...defense wins championship...you know why SA won last year? they shut down the Nets with their defense...and Duncan had a heydey inside...and to think Nets had legitimate post defenders...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">offense wins game...defense wins championship...you know why SA won last year? they shut down the Nets with their defense...and Duncan had a heydey inside...and to think Nets had legitimate post defenders...</div> The Nets did not have this great offense either, only scoring 93.7 PPG in the playoffs. Martin and Jefferson have no inside nor mid-range game developed yet, so if they are not dunking the ball, it is tough for NJ to score points. Keep setting them up, I'll knock them down.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">yes you can...first of all...Shaq won't guard Dirk in the perimeter...somebody else on the Lakers will...Antoine blowing by Duncan? haven't you heard of the San Antonio zone defense? come on man...the Mavs will shoot jumpers all day...then the other team will bang them inside...they score, they let the other team score as well...but what if they're shooting blanks??? offense wins game...defense wins championship...you know why SA won last year? they shut down the Nets with their defense...and Duncan had a heydey inside...and to think Nets had legitimate post defenders...</div> You act like the Nets had the same type of offense as the Mavs. If Shaq doesn't gaurd Dirk, who is he going to gaurd? Antonie? No matter what, Shaq will be drawn away from the basket vs them. The Spurs can play zone all they want. They don't have the two big guys inside anymore. Yes, I know they have Rasho Nesterovic now, but he's not Robinson. I'm sure, it will be great to watch the Mavs & Spurs play - it will be a wonderful match up. The best defense in the world won't be able to stop the mavs. Three guys on the team can be having an off night, and they'll still have at least three other guys to pick up the slack.... Defense may win championships, but with an offense as potent as the Mavs; defense almost becomes irrelevant. Of course I'm not saying the mavs will win it all. But they have greatly improved their chances of doing so. If I am wrong - at the end of the season I will admit it.

Finley is the only decent defender in their starting 5...Mavs have great scoring power but that alone just doesn't get the job done in the NBA when we are talking about titles.... Bad news for the Mavs is the other top west teams Spurs,Lakers and Wolves also improved a good deal....I still reckon the Mavs and Wolves will battle for who goes out in round one..
omg! what a crazy trade! what are the mavs thinking though? where they gonna find minutes for all these all stars? there is only one ball. i guess if you have a chance to pick up antoine walker and give up raef laftenztz, then your laughing, but now they stacked at the 4 spot, and no center (obviously, thats been said over and over lol) wierd trade...i hope to see both teams make another move. and how the hell arent the mavs over salary cap?
yes the Nets only avgd. 90+ points in the post-season...but they had the defense enough to play their opponents to the 80's....product? nba finals... remember last season's series with the Blazers? they nearly lost a series wherein they're up 3-0...you know why? Wallace had a heydey inside...heck, even Zack had a field trip inside...and they allowed the Blazers to almost score at will...they couldn't even contain the Kings minus Webber...and the Mavs are allowing 90-100 points to their opponents... with your arguments with the Lakers...sure nobody can't stop Shaq...just let him score points...does that mean you'll let the whole Lakers team score as well? somebody can stop Malone...Kobe...or GP...does the Mavs have the defensive players to stop these other guys? the trade forced Dirk to move to center...ouch for him...Jamison? ho-hum on defense...and now Toine? even K-Mart owns him... my view still stands...offense will bring you to the postseason...defense will bring you to the finals...
