    Does any1 know why Strong Side LB(LB that covers TE) is reffered to as the SAM sometimes,

    and WILL is the Weaksinde LB(opp. of TE)

    and Mike is MLB?

    i cant figure out what they stand for, any help is appreciated

    It has to do with the 1st letter of thier position name:

    Strong side = SAM
    MLB = MIKE
    Weak Side = WILL

    you will also notice teams use Lucy to designate Left and Roger to designate right

    i know the S is for Sam and Strong, and M is Middle and Mike

    but why do they use it?

    M is for middle linebacker Mike Singletary. One of the greatest MLB's to play the game. lol Just kiddin. I never heard of M, S, & W linebackers.

    Even the military uses code letters like that for thier companies, like Alpha Co. Easy Co. Charlie Co. etc. I think its just a better sounding name than A Co. or Weak Linebacker. I mean what sounds better, Easy Company or Sam Linebacker?
