Man i agree 100%. If a TE is gonna be paid well it should be T.Gonzalez. Least he has proven himself. The newer NFL players dont even care about football anymore, its all bout $$$$$. Winslow jr is a pile of shit. For one dont blame berlin for winslow not being able to get into the end zone. That sure didnt stop him when he did his one heisman pose against what team last year? Winslow in the canes offense which was one the tops in the country last year. 1 td all year. He can run his mouth alright and claim he is soldier. Bottom line is winslow is money player and all he wants is money. He doesnt play with heart he never has. Dont blame it on berlin who threw tds to others at miami last year. Screw Winslow. Even if he is a top Tight END. It's not worth paying 10 mil a year for a great TE. It's just crazy how much these people are getting paid. Just crazy

If you had a crystal ball and could look into the future and say he'll have numbers like Shannon Sharpe and/or Tony Gonzales, then sure...he might be worth that kind of coin. But as an unproven rookie? Let him hold out. The Cleveland offer is MORE than fair. In fact, I think it's ridiculous as is... I can't imagine them going higher.
Even if he puts up great numbers, a TE is a good asset when you have other players around him, if you spend $10 mil a year on a TE, you will not be able to afford a great RB and QB, and what about an offensive line?? I think those 3 positions and a good WR rate above a TE. I think a team needs to prioratise their spending. You can shake a tree and a decent TE or a WR comes out, you need to spend money like that on O or D line or QB.
I agree with you, Eagles4Life... Locking up that kind of salary cap portion on a Tight End is ridiculous. What's Cleveland going to do? Redesign their offense so it features the TE on 50% of its plays? How many receptions did Cleveland TE's have last year in this system?
But those a re rare cases were the TE gets the ball alot. I say the only person to get the ball alot is T.Gonzalez and S.Sharpe
but Winslow is a rookie, he hasnt had the opp. to get the ball alot in the NFL, look at Todd Heap, hes the passing threat in that offense, same with shokey. Look how those 2 can create, Shokey was the factor in his rookie season, and created plays for Toomer and whoever took Hilliards spot after Dawkins crushed ike, and look at how todd heap is with the ravens offense, he was the only threat after Jamal Lewis. Winslow can and will change it around in Cleveland, hes the best WR and Off. Player they have and Shannon Sharpe is retired JEts./
Kellen Winslow was a 1year wonder in the NCAAF and also has a GREAT HALL OF FAME dad. I wouldn't be suprised if he isn't as good as he and everyone thinks, but I still think he's a player.
but i also wouldnt be surprised if hes good... i mean look at the manning family great football players and TEs may not get the ball alot but look at the catches they do get, alot of the time they are 3rd down conversions... so even if they dont get the catches... they make up for the good catches
