On insidehoops.com they said the Heat would release a shocking announcement today, guess that's it. I think it's for the better of Pat Riley and the organization. The losing really was getting to his head and he just didn't know what to do with the team anymore. He went from a philosophy of not playing young guys until they're ready to playing young guys off the bat. There were just too many changes going on around him to keep going.

Stan Van Gundy takes over from Riley as the new coach of the Heat

One question have the Heat screwed Lamar Odom over? He only signed with the Heat so he could be coached by Riley....Hmmm...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Pat Riley resigned as coach of the Miami Heat on Friday, saying the team's rebuilding process is on track enough for him to step aside.

Riley ranks second in NBA history with 1,110 victories, and he led the Los Angeles Lakers to four championships in the 1980s. But the Heat missed the playoffs the past two years, finishing last in the Atlantic Division at 25-57 last season.

He will be replaced as Miami's coach by Stan Van Gundy, his top assistant the past several seasons.

The move is not health-related, Riley said, adding that he made the decision Wednesday.

He will stay on as the Heat's president.</div>

Not too bad for Pat Riley. He helped the team out greatly and their future looks good. Butler will only improve and Odom should be ok.

    thanks for that post...

This seemed inevitable to me. I thought he might actually do it sometime in the middle of the season or afterwards. He just doesnt seem to be having any fun what so ever. I mean 0. I am sure he will flirt with the possibility of returning to coaching. It always happens.

Yeah it was clear that Riley is staying on as the team President. What's also clear is that Odom stated that Riley was the only coach he wanted. He didn't say that he wanted to work with Riley in some capacity he said he wanted Riley as a coach. He should be fine but still it's a little like J.O. signing with the Pacers because Thomas was there only to have that rug yanked before the ink was dry. It seems dishonest to me.

He (Odom) is away from Clipperland, he should just keep his mouth shut (esp when it coems to weed) be happy, and play ball.

That's what I'm sure Odom'll do and yet it's interesting that the main reason for him to go to Miami is now gone or at least has a new job. He's not in the situation he signed up for. While again I'm sure he'll make the best of it, I don't think that teams should misrepresent their intentions to players the way they have this summer. It may be that neither Bird or Riley planned for things to go the way they have and that they didn?t intentionally mislead their players. If that?s the case well c?est la vie. (another thing!) What does weed have to do with anything? We?re talking about Riley and the effect his leaving will have on the Heat not about Odom?s storied past.

Riley was the coach/president, he just stepped down as coach. I doubt this will effect Odom, Riles will be right there every game, plus Riles made his own personal selection for the head coach, in longtime assistant, Van Gundy.

    All will be happy.
