That is what seperates him from the NBA ellite.

I can teach him defense alright. Look at most defenders who are also undreated like Ben Wallace, most folks say if he improved his offence. blah! Dirk has no defense thats why hes not ranked that high is the most, bandwagoning, overraed statement ive heard, most of you folks saying that **** are just Spurs and Laker fans who just dont want to notice him because he needs a litte improving.. goodness! Same with big Ben, put him at another team, blah blah blah! Ask your self this if Dirk and Big Ben were on the same team.. would you talk about them then?

    Thought So</div>First off, I'm a Warriors fan.

Dirk is recognized as a great offensive player. That is obvious. But he has no D and is also recognized for that. Great players play both sides of the ball, Dirk does not.

Ben Wallace is not considered one of the best players in the NBA, neither should Dirk until he developes an all-around game.

    Keep the biased remarks out.

Troy Murphy, Shawn Marion, and Earl Watson.

Somebody metioned earlier in this thread that Kenyon Martin is underrated but I think he's just the opposite, he's so vastly overrated. A Power Foward in the east, and he doesn't avg. a double double, yet he gets so much attention for his play..

I have rarely seen a list of the top ten NBA players without Dirk's name somewhere in there. He is not underrated. The guys that are usualy rated over him are the ones, like Rudeezy said, that play both sides of the ball. Duncan, KG, Kidd, Pierce, McGrady, Kobe, etc. Those are the only guys consistently rated ahead of Dirk and that is because they play both sides of the ball.

Baised remarks not toward you.. apologizes if it seemed like that.

Im just saying, thats all people can say about him "He has no defense" thats it? am I right or am I wrong?

Folks recognize Shaq as some kind of powerhouse when all he can do is sit there and dunk the ball, yes I said it and ill say it AGAIN, ALL SHAQ DOES IS DUNK THE BALL, but he gets all this priase because he plays defencse, yes I know "denfese wins championships". point 1 nobody notices Dirk because his defense isnt that good

Ben Wallace (NO THIS IS NOT a DISS TOWARDS THE PISTONS) best defender in the Leauge, they couldnt get passed the Nets they got swept and if you go back and look at the 02-03 seson series the Mavs outscored the Pistons by at least 10+ points. point number 2, nobody likes to notice Ben wallace because hes not a legitamte scorer..

Thats the only point im tryin to get across, nothing else, thats the way most these NBA fans are, if it aint the Lakers or Spurs bandwagon they are always trying to find the littest thing wrong with somebody.

Nobody is saying Dirk isn't a great player. They're just saying he gets a lot of positive attention, therefore he's not underrated.

You didn't offend me, I'm not easily offended.[IMG]

Yes, all people can say is that he has no defense because that is his biggest flaw as a player.(He doesn't have many offensively)

Shaq is the most dominant player in the NBA, that is why he is recognized.

Many people recognize Wallace as a good player and a great defensive player. Just like Dirk is recognized as a great offensive player.

I am still not sure why you think he is underrated. He is consistently metioned in the top 10. Thats impressive for a guy who plays little to no defense.

Ben Wallace has actually improved his offensive game and is averaging nearly 12 points per game....That is very impressive for a guy known as just a great defensive player...Larry Brown has really done well with him

Anyways..Dirk is a top 10 player but he isn't known as an MVP for two reasons he doesn't play good enough defense and he had 3 other stars on his team last season..when you have other great players all-round you it is very tough to get the MVP award..It is normally given to a guy who stands out from everyone else with amazing stats and who leads his team to a really high seed..Dirk had Finley,Nash and NVE who put up very good numbers to help him out.
