The team has stockpiled a lot of good talent from past drafts and trading. They have a good core line up and a solid bench. I don't know about this year but next year I have a feeling Memphis will make a surge to the play offs.
Might be... they have one of the best passing Point guards and a very all - around Power Forward in Gasol... But they should learn to pass the ball a bit better... If only Williams is doing it , it won't be of any help...
some people still don't know what MVP means .. ! It doesn't say THE BEST PLAYER .. it's the MOST <u>VALUBLE</u> PLAYER .. It's about any player's value for his team .. with this in mind .. Jason Kidd deserve it most !! ... Without Jason Kidd .. there's no such a great organization called the New Jersy Nets ! Without Kidd .. K-Mart wouldn't be the same K-Mart .. Jefferson won't be more than a normal role player ! Without Kidd .. Byron Scott will be an analyst on TNT at best ! Without Kidd ... Nets won't even make the playoffs ... it's about Value .. and there is no value greater than Kidd's value for the Nets ! ... oh .. If Lebron James keeps posting up those numbers and Cavs improve dramaticly ( Playoff ) ... I'd take him as a candidate ! same goes for Vince if he takes the raptors to the top 4 seeds in the east !
shaq, kg, and tmac are just as valuable to their teams...without kg the wolves wouldnt be to good...the lakers(until this year) probably wouldnt be to good, and we all know the magic wouldnt be were they are without tmac...so stats play into it as well i think
Well, I personally think it's far too early to be naming any candidates for MVP. But, since I must, I'm gonna go with Shaq. Without him, the Lakers wouldn't be undefeated. Sure, the scoring stats aren't eye popping right now, only 20 ppg, but, just his prescence makes a team change their defensive game plan instantly. The only player in the league worth at least as much to his respective team is Jason Kidd.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting King James:</div><div class="quote_post">I agree with purehoops on that one, same reason why KG has not won it.</div> So Garnett hasnt made the playoffs? Or wait... he didnt make a home court advantage on below par supporting cast? Please explain which one.
KG hasn't won it cause he can't get his team outta the first round. If he could do that, he'd be a hell of a legit candidate. But, there are reasons why Tim Duncan has won it twice, why Shaq has won it, why JKidd won it. It's cause, they can not only lead their teams to the playoffs, but, get to the Finals. If you look at all the last a couple of the previous winners, Shaq and Duncan, they've all not only got to the playoffs, but, to the finals. And, in the case of Shaq from a few years ago and Duncan this previous year, they've WON the Championship. So, this could be a large reason why Garnett hasn't won it. His inability to lead his team in the post season.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting purehoops:</div><div class="quote_post">So Garnett hasnt made the playoffs? Or wait... he didnt make a home court advantage on below par supporting cast? The NBA loves to give MVP's to winners, not as much the most deserving like the NFL or MLB. Duncan last year, best record in the league, that had a whole lot to do with him getting the MVP.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Moo2K4 :</div><div class="quote_post">KG hasn't won it cause he can't get his team outta the first round.</div> MVP voting is completed prior to the playoffs beginning so this is not true. I think KG was deserving last year, but duncan arguably had a better year. It coulda went either way.
Spurs were tied for the best record last year with Dallas actually. Though, the Spurs did win it all and did prove they were the superior team by taking 3 outta 4 during the season and beating them in 6 in the WCF.

Throw the 2nd bolded comment out the window, Jason Kidd has never won an MVP. MVP is based on regular season, thus post season should have little to do with MVP. Garnett was truley the Most VALUABLE player last season because without Garnett, the Wolves would be the bottom of the barrell without him. P friggin S... That big explanation might look nice, but you need to get the facts straight because 90% is innacurate information.
Yea, sorry bout the JKidd thing. I got ahead of myself. Duncan won it that year, so, yea, I'm not completely retarded, lol. It's just who I wanted to win that apparently. Yea. But, if you do look at it, it may be done before hand, but, they have stereotypically been on teams that get outta the first round. But, KG is a very deserving player. He could win it, it's just, I dunno, apparently doesn't do enough to the people who vote. And, I must add though, Duncan deserved it last year, not KG. The year before though, Kidd deserved it, and I think that's why I put JKidd down as winning the MVP.

Garnett was equally deserving as Duncan was, it came down to who you liked better... and personally I felt they made the wrong choice, plenty of NBA experts will agree with me (i.e. Greg Anthony, Charles Barkley) to name a few.
After watching the LA game.. There is no way teams can just concentrate on just shaq an kobe.. esp with fish and george hitting shots All Kobe has to do now is score.. and honestly i think he can do it better than anyone in the game,Just like he did when he avereaged 40 for a month!! hell see even less doubles now.. plus LA is running a lot more, so kobe will have a lot more easy baskets, which HE NEVER got last year; Thank GOd the lakers have a real pg so kobe doesnt have to bring the ball up the court every damn time Kobes ppg might not drop at all!!
Kobe had 9 straight games of 40 or better that went from Feb. 6-23. Just 5 games shy of the all time record held by Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 40-plus in 14-straight games twice during the 1961-62 season. Amazing yes. It is all up to Kobe's mindset and how he takes this pressure, because he can snap at any moment.
Kobe's ppg is going to drop from 30 last year. There is no way he can do that with this many stars on one team. I see maybe 25 ppg at max. I don't see anyone averaging 30 on that team this year.
