Ive a Q should he be in the L? Did his father hav anything to do with that? Can he bring anything to the lakers?and to the L in the future? *thoughts*
He reminds me of a smaller Madsen with less rebounding ability but more of a perimeter game. He does have some passing skills, although I think his ball-handling is shaky. And yes, his pops did have a small part in him getting into the L.
Luke Walton is an extremely talented player. He's got all the things to be at least a descent small forward in the future. I mean, good range, bout 20 ft, 6'9", yea, so on and so forth. I just don't know if his future should be with LA. I mean, as long as George is healthy, he's gonna get the bulk of the minutes. Than Fox will get a lot when he comes back. So, really, that just puts Luke the lowman on the totem pole. Plus, Rush will also get minutes there occasionally before Walton. So, yea, I dunno if his future really is with LA, but, he's a good player and could be a legit player on a few teams, just not LA.
I think I have to agree with that. But, what might hurt Cook, he's a power forward, and he's only 240. That's probably not gonna help him. Cause, yea, he's gonna be too small, unless he bulks up, to guard the power forwards, but, he'll be too slow to guard small forwards. So, I dunno, it could go either way. But, he's go the skills. 6'10", good jump shot, was a good defender in college, so on, so forth, yea. You know where I'm goin. I think it'll be interesting to see both these players in about 2 years, just to see where they are.
Luke is an extremely talented player that has potential to fit in very well with the Lakers. He's a tweener -- too small for a PF, too slow for a SF -- but he makes up for all of that with his intangibles. This kid sees the floor better than many guards out there...and he has this uncanny ability to see plays develop...if he's not the one making the assist, he's making the pre-assist - the pass that leads up to the assist. If there's two guys on the team that I love to watch run the fast break, it'd be Luke and GP. This kid is fun to watch. He does other little things to make up for his tweener size...he boxes out, he anticipates plays on defense, he'll make the extra pass, etc. Did you watch last night when him and Baron Davis(?) were chasing the ball out of bounds? Baron got the ball and threw it at Luke. Luke saw this coming so he dropped to the floor and dodged the ball. Its little things like that that he does so well. He's extremely unselfish too, which at times can be a weakness. Before training camp, PJ even mentioned the possibility of putting Luke in there with the Fab Four to help keep the offense fluid...however it was the recent performances of Devean and Fisher that have kept Luke out of the SF rotation (Fish plays SG and Kobe moves up to SF). This kid can play...he just needs playing time and a couple years under hit belt.
IF Duncan is the "big fundamentals," Luke is the little fundamentals. He's arite, he won't ever be a star, but he'll be a solid player. He's a poor mans Shane Battier to me. He got drafted where i thought he would (early 2nd round). I dont think bill had anything to do with it. Bill has more than one son who played college ball u kno...
I really like Luke's passing skills. He plays with his head and won't make many stupid mistakes. Nice player to have on the team as a role player.
I don't think he will contribute right away, and the only reason why he is getting attention is because of his dad, who is also overrated in my opinion. But there is no question he can play, but I don't think he should have gotten drafted that high.
Luke Walton has alot of room for improvement, just like any other rookie. Bill Walto could not be the only reason why they signed him. The Laker's saw something there for them to take him. It will take awhile for him to obtain playing time. Someone will need to retire, injured, or pretty much die. But hey, it could happen.
Yeah, he does have much room for improvement, the main reason I think is he has a feel for the game, if he can go into a game for the lakers, and relatively successfuly play which he has in the 2 mpg hes played then thats just a taste that he can play. His dad is the only reason why he is on the lakers, not the L. He'd of wen't late late second round.
Under the heading 'rookie most likely to fade into obscurity' I would have Luke Walton... Hes not going anywhere.Period.
