Perhaps this isn't the way that "Mr. RAIDER" should be shown the door. Perhaps he should have been given a chance at a farewell tour. Maybe I'm an ass, but wasn't it about time for Timmy to step down and let the business of football go on? He hasn't been the star for a couple of seasons, and he was given the chance to stay with the team as the no.3 (with the requisite pay cut). As much as I hate the idea, I applaud the move. What else can you do as a professional team?
Well just let him retire as a Raider. He has played many hard yrs with them ,a dn should just retire as a Raider. Instead of spending another 2 season with some other team that he doesnt care for and retire as a 49er or somen.
most overrated WR of the past 10 years IMO, only broke 100 REC once, and only broke 90 REC like 3 other times, whats he average? 7 TDs a year and 1200 yards? their decent, and hall of fame numbers but still, one of the most overrated players in the last 10 years.
I think that to call him overrated is a bit harsh. The seasons of 2002 and 2003 were down years and should indicate to him that the end has come. Even with those two years included, he average nearly 14 yds/catch. Looks like he'll catch on somewhere, but I don't see a roster spot for him as a starter anywhere in the league.
Tim Brown should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is hardly over-rated. Young fans, who bust on his numbers, should go look at WR numbers over the years. It wasn't until the 90's that we saw WRs breaking 100 receptions and the Raiders, historically, haven't played the type of offense that produced those type of numbers. Al Davis has always prefered that the Raiders go deep, rather than ball control. Gruden and Gannon changed that a bit, but Tim had been, with the Raiders, for many years before that change. Tim Brown managed to produce greatly for the Raiders despite being one of the few weapons that the Raiders on offense most of his career. My opinion is that Tim Brown has been greatly under-rated throughout his career. I do think his football days are winding down, but I think that he will be able to contribute to the Bucs this year.
He should have shut his mouth and retired. The Raiders are hardly a classy organization, but Tim should have rose about that and at 62 years old, he should have just said enough and ended his very good career... (Ok, so he's not 62, but he might as well be.) I think he's spent too much time with Jerry Rice.
Thanks for the well thought and unbiased opinion SF. I'll sure be glad when we get a Brown's fan in here to take the heat off the Silver and Black.
On one hand, I hate to see him go, but we all knew his day was coming. The Raiders have plenty of depth at WR though, and I'm sure that the passing game will not suffer at all. He said that he will retire as a Raider and I believe that. I'm sure that he will do well in Tampa in a 3rd down possession receiver type of role.
Frankly, the biggest problem is that Timmy wouldn't take the cut in pay or snaps to stay with the RAIDERS. That's the pride talking louder than reason. Now reason has taken the place of pride and he will accept the same situation somewhere else. Is this another case of Emmitt traveling to the desert? Time will tell. But Emmitt was just bumped back up to primary option because of injury... Maybe this is best for Timmy, and that's what we in THE NATION want. He was a good soldier. Time to say goodbye (or at least, see you soon). Maybe he'll sign next year and retire as a RAIDER after all.
