Okay, we all know I'm an avid Spurs fan, so here goes my spiel. David Robinson in his 14 year career has undoubtedly had a huge impact on me, especially in his off-the-court roles in terms of how to live life and to value what is closest to you and so forth. I've grown up watching and supporting Robinson, which initially led to me being a Spurs fan. He's provided me with the pleasure of 2 championships, as well as keeping the franchise that I have grown to love alive throughout some bad times. D-Rob will tomorrow join the compant of The Iceman, Johnny Moore and James Silas as the Spurs to have their jersey retired. The fact that Robinson is having his jersey retired merely a handful of months after his retirement is true testament to his importance to the city of SA and the Spurs. Not just my sporting idol and role model, but a role model as a person. Class. Interity. Respect. Honour. Without Robinson many children in SA would go uneducated, yet, the Carver Acadamy provides them with such a life. Proof of Davids unmistakably huge heart and vigour for life. When Tim Duncan was drafted, David saw his role changing and thus took the backseat while Duncan took over as the man in SA. Had David not pleaded with Tim to stay, we may today be seeing Duncan in Orlando and the Spurs in no-mans land. For that, David deserves credit in itself for helping secure the future of the Spurs. As #50 heads to the rafters, I personally will feel immense pride, admiration and respect for the man, and also honoured to have followed his career. While it's still strange to see a starting line-up with Rasho Nesterovic instead of David Robinson, I'm grateful for the career of averaging 21.1 points and 10.6 rebounds I'll leave with a quote from Tony Parker - "I want to come back for David (Robinson)," Parker said. David Robinson - I thank you.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">David Robinson - I thank you.</div> My thoughts exactly David has been a pleasure to watch all these years and It is strange not seeing him in the line-up every game.He will truely be missed on the court..His presents inside would also be noticed...He had the respect from every player in the NBA and the fans. I will at the game tonight and when they put his retired jersey into the stands..It will be a very special moment for everyone involved at the Spurs.I expect many fans to be in tears by the time the Jersey is up there.. Thank you David Robinson..A true legend and a class act
He was one of the few class acts in the league. It would be safe to have kids say he is their role model. Its not everyday you come across a player who puts millions of dollars into a school. I look foward to the day his jersey is retired.
Yep I remember reading a story in SLAM about how he went to an underpriveleged school and offered a whole bunch of students $2000 if they stuck it out and graduated. I don't think anyone would disagree that NBA players are overpaid, which is why it's always great to see them being generous to charity. David Robinson - a true meaning of the term 'Class Act' and it was beautiful to see him go out with a finals win.
David Robinson deserves every honor he ever got. He was a class act on the court but more importantly off the court. He is a role-model for not only us as individuals but for our society. He is an example of an individual who doesnt allow money to corrupt him. He gives alot of his money to the underprivledged, which is something I wish alot of other superstars in the NBA would do. Having his number retired is not a high-enough award considering his achievements. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame and I am sure that in a few years, he will be.
Tony Parker so badly wanted to get back for this one...He will play tonight as will Tim Duncan.Sorry Jazz fans but the Spurs are extra motivated "this one is for David"

Was a pleasure DA. Will we ever see a center ara like his? Robinson, Olajuwon, Ewing, Mutombo, Shaq, and Mourning going at it during the 90's and into the new new millenium. Enjoy seeing your jersey in the rafters.

One of the lucky ones who was able to go out on his own terms - congratulations DRob, and absolute inspiration.

The day of the classic centre has past us. The battles of Hakeem vs Robinson, Ewing vs Shaq and such are sadly no longer because the new guys coming in are of a different mould. I can't think of a Centre that's come into the league in the past few years that is of a similar mould to the "90s Centres" That said, the exciting era lies ahead of Duncan, KG, Amare, Chandler, K-Mart, and co of big men in the league lies ahead.
