<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If Stan Van Gundy hopes to avoid falling to 0-7 as an NBA coach, he will have to defeat his younger brother Jeff on Tuesday when the Miami Heat visit the Houston Rockets.

"I will be extremely proud to walk out on the court with my brother," said Jeff, the Rockets' first-year coach. "We went through this before when I was with the Knicks (and Stan was an assistant with Miami), but it's a little different with us both being head coaches."

They met once as coach vs. player when Jeff was a senior and standout point guard at Nazareth College, a Division III school in Rochester, New York. Stan, three years older, already was the coach at Castleton in Vermont. They met in the championship game of a holiday tournament at Nazareth where Nazareth won and Jeff was named MVP.

Their parents, Bill and Cindy, who live near Stan in Miami, are not looking forward to the game. They didn't enjoy the previous games between their sons.

"It was miserable before, and it will be even more miserable now," said Bill, who retired after nearly 40 years as a college coach. "You can't win. You have to have a loser, and neither one of them takes that well.

"I'll go to one room and watch one TV and Cindy will watch in the other room. She likes to listen to the commentators. I don't. She picks the (announcer) she wants to put on the voodoo doll."

The last time a pair of brothers coached against each other in the NBA was when current Detroit coach Larry Brown led the Denver Nuggets against his brother Herb's Pistons on six times between 1976-78. Herb is now an assistant with Detroit.

Going to be interesting to see a brother v brother showdown again..

The last one Larry Brown v Herb Brown

Larry and Herb Brown met six times in the mid-'70s when Larry led the Denver Nuggets and Herb was at the helm of the Detroit Pistons. The former was victorious four times. Here's a closer look at how they did head-to-head.
