<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">IT IS SAID THAT the best day and the worst day of a young man's life is when he finally defeats his dad at something meaningful. Mike Dunleavy Jr. figures the real problem was the struggle toward that seminal moment. For Dunleavy, that struggle was staged on a backyard basketball court, where he and his dad would go 1-on-1, their career arcs equidistant from the summit of physical prowess -- Mike Jr. on his way up, Mike Sr. on his way down. "It was pretty competitive," Mike Jr., now a starting forward for the Warriors, recalled after practice Thursday afternoon. "We both wanted to win. He didn't want me to have the pride of being able to tell everybody that I beat my dad." There was something more than the fatherly ego afoot there. Mike Sr., now the coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, had been where his son wanted to go. For 11 seasons, Mike Sr. played in the NBA, averaging 8.0 points and 3.9 assists in 438 games. Mike Jr. had his dad by nearly seven inches. Mike Sr. had his son by more than 26 years. "He started beating me toward the end of high school," Mike Sr. said as the Clippers' practice wound down Thursday evening. "Around his junior, senior year. Once he got past that, he never looked back." Funny how the father recalls the aftermath, while the son focuses on the prelude. "I'd be up by a lot," Mike Jr. said, "and he'd always come back to win. He had the mental edge. The whole concept of beating your dad was a pretty big thing for me." It still is, though the dynamic has changed. Tonight Mike Jr. and the Warriors will host Mike Sr. and the Clippers. It is believed it will be just the second time in NBA history that a father has coached against his son. </div> Check out the rest of the article http://www.bayarea.com/mld/cctimes/sports/7260874.htm Should certainly be interesting to see how this goes..Got to be strange for both of them.
