Between this year and last year will freshman do you think will do better? Last year was just amazing for freshman, but there are some promising guys entering this year. Already Kris Humphries and Bogut are making huge impacts (their game against each other was quite the duel) even though it is early in the season. Loul Deng is expected to do big things at Duke a year after Reddick made a great impact his freshman year. Mustafa Shakur will take the PG reins at 'Zona, Powe will team up with Amit Tamir to make a pretty good frontcourt. Another team who had a great freshman last year who will have a frosh with high expectations is Indiana who will be getting Patrick Ewing Jr. Trying to outdo last years freshman class will be one of the harder tasks to accomplish, and personally I don't think they can, but it just goes to show the continuing growing role of freshman in NCAA basketball.
It's amazing how big of an impact the Freshman class has had these last two years, but I have to favor last year's Freshman class. Deng, Humphries, Bogut, and Shakur are all fantastic players, but a far cry from Anthony, Diogu, Roberson, and company.
Not to mention the Carolina 3, Bosh, and Reddick. Last year by far. Not saying this year's won't be impressive, but last year's was far away the best frosh class in years, maybe decades. It's like comparing the 85 and 86 class of rookies in the NBA(85 strongest ever, 86 strong but not nearly as much as the previous year). Sorry bout the pro analogy, but it seems like a fitting one.
I'm going to reserve judgement until at least mid-way through the season, but I think there's one player who will be a future NBA all-star in Luol Deng. This kid is a monster, Powe will also be a lottery pick someday. Last year's class is awful tough to beat though, especially considering Carolina's class.

Last years class was great with Carmelo, Bosh, Redick, Dee Brown, Roberson, Walsh, McNamara, Bracey Wright, and certainly the Carolina Trio, McCants, Felton and May. I think this years class may be just as good. Luol Deng, Mustafa Shakur, Brandon Bass, Andrew Bogut, Sean Banks, Chris Paul, Leon Powe, Kris Humphries, Gary Forbes.... I think this years class may have better pro prospects.
Lou Deng will be a lottery pick if he decides to enter the NBA draft next year.As for the top freshman.Luol Deng, Mustafa Shakur,Chris Paul are without a doubt my favourite ones so far. Shakur is a going to be a very good point guard for AZ.
Oh man, I forgot abou Bosh... Have you seen Kris Humphries from Minnesota? Commited to Duke first. He is averaging like 24 and 11 so far. Also, Gary Forbes from Viriginia. He was the ACC Rookie of the Week, and is avg 14 and 7 as a swingman. Sean Banks from Memphis is really good. I am biased here. He was a top 20 player in the country in HS. Avg'ing like 15 and 7.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting STCBBall3:</div><div class="quote_post"> I think this years class may have better pro prospects.</div> With the impact that Melo and Bosh are having this year, and guys who stayed in like May and Felton getting even better, I'm not so sure about that.
Well, Deng is real good and will be a lottery pick if he leaves after this season. Bogut is a big pro prospect, and so are guys like Humprhies and Bass. Is Gerry McNamara a big pro prospect? No.
Never said he was. But there were probably about eight guys from last years class who could be pro prospects, whereas this year i see 3 or 4. Of course, I KNOW that that number will go up as the season progresses and the tourney rolls around. But as of now, I don't see as many guys being prospects this year as last.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting starman85:</div><div class="quote_post">With the impact that Melo and Bosh are having this year, and guys who stayed in like May and Felton getting even better, I'm not so sure about that.</div> Scouts really aren't big on the best big men from last year's class like Digou and May. They are viewed as undersized and have various individual problems with their game that may prevent them from making a good impact in the league.
I wasn't saying that you said McNamara was, but he is a big name people throw around as one of the top freshman, but he's really not a pro prospect. Same with Redick. Diogu isn't a big time pro prospect? Thats weird.
Scouts have said that he is undersized as a pro-prospect and he can't make up for his lack of size with athleticism because he isn't too athletic either. Those things can lead to rebounding problems on the professional level which in turn harms his pro stock.
