<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Alonzo Mourning played a total of 12 games during one month at the cost of about $23 million to the Nets, so it will be hard to convince the owners and prospective buyers of this forlorn franchise that he was worth that kind of money.
He was, though, and not just because it was Mourning who convinced Jason Kidd to return to New Jersey. If a little piece of Mourning rubbed off on those around him, if just a molecule of his dignity and focus was transferred to his haughty younger teammates, then the investment will provide its dividends down the road.</div>

    I really liked this part:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Martin had been callous and immature last week, when he mocked Mourning during a row at practice with those comments, "My kidney, my kidney." Martin is not a bad guy. He knew he had done wrong soon enough, learning quickly from his own insolence. He spoke with Mourning about the blowup that day, and then again yesterday morning on the telephone.

"In the heat of the moment you say things you wished you hadn't, no matter if it's basketball, or at work," Martin said. "I apologized right afterwards. It still doesn't take it back that I said it. I apologized to him, he accepted my apology and we moved on from there."

You listened to Martin, and he seemed to be growing up right in front of you. If Mourning had managed that alone, then he had accomplished quite a bit in his short stay.</div>

Alonzo really amazed me in how he could teach the younger players more than basketball. He tought alot of them how to behave in life. He is the model citizen and I think every single member of the Nets franchise learned something positive from their interactions with Mourning.

oh come on man...it's not as if you never said anything nasty in your life...i know what he did was unforgivable...and downright insensitive...but if Zo can forgive and forget about it...why can't you?

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting :</div><div class="quote_post">i dont give a sh*t if k-mart apologized or not
HE CAN GO TO HELL AND ROT AND BURN FOREVER
I WILL CURSE HIM FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE</div>
Well he apologized and they have both moved on. You should too.

What sucks is the Nets still have to pay the $23 million on his contract.

Well Alonzo didn't retire voluntarily. I don't consider his leaving the NBA as his retirement, but more on the lines of a forced retirement. He didn't have a choice.

As much as I hate to see him retire, I realize that it is in his best intrests for him to no longer play professional basketball. Does it suck? You bet it does however the last thing I would want to see is something tragic happen to him because he continued to play the game he loved so much.

I would much rather him live the rest of his life to the fullest, instead of potentially dying on the court.

and he said so himself that his dream is to grow to over 80 years old...and see his kids grow up...that wouldn't happen if he continued playing basketball...

his greatest contribution to the Nets? he made Kidd re-sign...in a post-game interview, Kidd was asked if he would've re-signed with the Nets without Zo...he himself said that it's a good question...and he really doesn't know if he would've re-signed...
