carter isnt the greatest. he will never be anywhere near the greatest. carter is remembered for his dunking by everyone but hardcore fans, being able to jump 40 inches in the air and going to UNC does not make you the next michael jordan. there is only one MJ, and thats all there ever will be
Did anyone bring up MJ? I guess I must have missed that. I think that it should be noted that many, many people have been burdened with the "Is he the next Jordan?" question. It is true that there is only Michael Jordan. Carter is one of the few that has been able to dance through the air like Mike but you're right that doesn't make him Mike thank you again for clearing that up. Just in case anyone missed it, Michael Jordan and Vince Carter are not the same person! Ok, there, it was said. I hope that issue is now put to rest. It's interesting to note that Raptor fans love Carter even though his name was never legally changed to Mike. Pretty much all he could do to lose the affection of the fans in Canada would be to call the beaver an over grown rat or say that our beer sucks. Watch the movie Canadian Bacon and you?ll see why you don?t want to say anything derogatory about our beer. The point is that Carter is who he is and we've accepted that. Shape was talking about the subtleties and intangibles of a trade and I think that wanting to be on the team you?re on is a pretty big and important intangible. One reason why Raptor fans wouldn?t want to trade Carter is that he doesn?t seem to want to go anywhere. Name another superstar that would be as gracious and respectful and exciting and willing to play in Toronto then we?ll talk. I wouldn?t want a repeat of Antonio Davis (a.k.a. a player who didn?t want to be here and moped about it even though he was welcomed in with open arms and paid millions of dollars to play for people who adored him) Would KG come to play for Toronto? If you have any information about that please let me know. Toronto?s actually further south than Minneapolis? feel free to pass that along.
Toronto Raptors wouldn't be Toronto Raptors without Vince. I hope the rest of his career is with Toronto.
I'm a VC fan. I love his highlights. But I don't think he's indispensable. Offered the right person, Toronto will ship him out instantly. There are a lot of players over him and when you said that Vince will take back his position over those guys now that he's healthy, I'd like to tell you that he's never been in that position.
Why so much hate on VC? I think things would be a little different if we were to take a trip back two years ago. Vince and the Raptors are a three pointer away from entering the Eastern conference finals. Let's not forget VC was top 5 in scoring in his 2nd and 3rd year in the NBA. For two years, he's struggled with injuries, and as a result of other circumstances he's been the whipping boy of the NBA. With a cast in the past of Antonio Davis, JYD, Mo Pete and AWill, he's been the only real bonified scorer. I'd defintely have to say that VC is one of the premier players in the league. He's finally got some good players by his side, and a real second option now. For all your haters out there, keep your mouths shut and we'll see where the Raps are at following the end of this season! =)
^ True. But this is a new season, and he is doing good, double digits in assist 2 games in a row is great. He finally has somebody to pass to.
VC and Toronto goes together. I can't see him playing for another team, he is playing great this season, maybe this is the year where fans regain their confidence in him, and hopefully he can stay healthy.
I wouldn't trade Donyell for Tim cuz if they did it wouldn't be Vince's team anymore. Call me crazy, call me a fanboy but thats my opinian.
Intrepid said it all, i don't know why so mnay people hate on Carter. He is my favorite player by far, but i am not going to defend him because of that. People Open your eyes and read. Remember that guy named... Michael Jordan, what was he doing in rookie year? Dunking right, scoring, sure, disliked, yes. People kept saying how all he does is chuck the basketball and make posters in losing games. He eventulally got injured, then got back soon, and proved it all wrong, new better jumpshot. For all you who think carter can't shoot, you don't see enough Raptors games ( I don't blame you, lack of toronto games on TV). Kobe has Shaq, T-Mac is great, but LOSER, face it he can't win. Vince scores the most percentage of points for his team in the NBA. AI can score, but how many mismatches does he create for his team because of his size ( although he gets steals). watch Vince play and take a close look at his eyes you'll see the same determination in his eyes as on jordan's, just needs better defense, which he improved this season. All you haters, remember when Carter was "the next MJ"? One more thing, Who leads the NBA in votes in the all star games? Who hit the most winning shots this season, who the do defenders hate to stick D on? Who makes the most posters, who is the best dunker? You'll see why i'm defending him by the end of the season.
i think that vince's shots and assists have improved this year compared to the last 5....but his first step is much slower and his ability to split the d and make a high-flying move has decreased drastically. I love Vince...but so far this year, the majority of dunks have come by: open lanes,tip-ins, and alley-oops .....ya never know though...sometimes things change for the better
Vince doesn't do alot of dunking anymore, bc he realizes dunks worth as much as a layup. However, i do want to see vince take more shots on the offensive end. He looks for his teammates way too much, sometimes he over passes. I think he needs to realize that, getting others involved is important, but getting yourself going as the team's leading scorer and leader, getting himself involved is as important too. Vince is a top 10 player right now imo. I think once he does what i mentioned above, he is arguably a Top 5 player. And, yes, i can't imagine the Raptors trading Vince away for anybody in the league, not bc he is more dominant than Shaq, or more rounded than KG, but bc he is Canadian's Icon, and has alot of fans in Canada. And yes. I AM CANADIAN.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post"> Vince has and always will be just a scorer and a great dunker...the players I mentioned do alot more in games than Vince ever did. You are crazy if you think KG,duncan, shaq, webber, kidd would not of been taken over carter two years ago... and DAMN..I can't believe I forgot AI on my list.Who was clearly better as well. You truely are a homer if you believe what you wrote there in your quote.</div> I don't think people watch basketball. Vince Carter is a great passer. He is constantly double teamed and he finds open players. Vince is a good defender when he wants to be, and he has a great jumper, he just takes ridiculously hard shots cause he is double teamed all the time. WATCH A GAME
lol this seems pretty old, I wasn't here when this thread was going but: No shot: 2 seasons he shot over 40% from three land, and is at 40% this season (15th in league) Can't pass: 4.9 assists per game Slower than before: very true, the first step isn't the same, but his hot has always been underatted, even when he was making shots all people know is that he can dunk :shame on you all (that did that): Can't play more than 53 games: going for 73 this year. When last has Shaq played a full season (still love you Shaq daddy), Mashburn, Webber, Tmac, Baron, Iverson, Stackhouse...... Webber 28.5 games per year (59 this season) Mashburn 24.5 games per year (50 this season) Odom 23.3 games per year (1 this season) Vince 19.3 games per year ( 9 this season) Stackhouse 17.8 games per year (51 this season) Eddie Jones 14 games per year (1 this season) Iverson 13.8 games per year (22 this season) Shaq 13.3 games per year (15 this season) Ray Allen 11.3 games per year (26 this season) Kobe 8.3 games per year (17 this season) Allan Houston 7.5 games per year (21 this season) Starting a Franchise: Things Vince does is sell tickets, is respected by other players around the league (not media but players), and is knows as a good guy and a guy that also supports his city to the fullest. <u>Players to take over him:</u> Kobe, Shaq, KG, Duncan, Yao (he can be dominant), Lebron Would have to really think (probably not): Pierce, Tmac, Arenas, JO, Stephon Marbury (one on one, no!), Shawn Marion (love ya Matrix, but not likekly), Amare (think), Dwyane Wade (think) <u>Definately not: </u> Ginobili (huh????) Webber (no way at all) Dirk Kidd (sorry but you're not young anymore) Eddy Curry (you've been giving a lot of chances) Ben Wallace (not a franchise player and you're not young) Artest (good but not franchise material) Rasheed Wallace (what??) Iverson (no, you're slowing down AI, the low fg% isn't getting better anytime soon ) Steve Francis <u>Not a leader: </u> Ask Jalen Rose about all the misconceptions people had about Vince and how his view has changed since coming to the Raps. Pretty bad posts: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Vince has and always will be just a scorer and a great dunker...the players I mentioned do alot more in games than Vince ever did. I don't like his selfish, attitude, and I don't like how he spoke out about the Raptors drafting Chris Bosh. Bosh has been one of their best picks in franchise history.</div> Just the bold part, ahh, I remember him saying he owed the everyone (team, fans etc) a game because of how bad he played against Memphis. Selfish? passes to much, and too unselfish is what all the Raptors fans, commentators, news writers etc were saying earlier in the season. Their was also something about him leading his team to losses and 60 point games, it was from a while back when the Raps were still at .500, but when you score 25 and shoot 47%, pass to your teammates and they just keep missing, their is nothing you can do. How did the Raptors fall? Vince missed a few games and they lost them all (Rose and Alvin were out too).
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">There are at least 23 players I would take ahead of Vince Carter. Here's a breakdown by position. Centers -------- Eddy Curry Power Forwards -------- Ben Wallace Shooting Guards -------- Allen Iverson Manu Ginobilli Point Guards -------- Steve Francis </div> I'm okay with your list other than these guys, especially Wallace and Curry. I think Wallace is more a product of the Detroit system than anything else and I'm not sure if Curry will ever figure it out If you really want to talk about guys I'd be reluctant to trade for. Allen Iverson is at the top of that list. Big contract, lingering injuries and his age are going to equate to a guy who will age rapidly in the next season or two. Once AI loses a step, he's out of the league. He's made a career, ostensibly, of being the fastest guy in the NBA. The rest of his skills are suspect
I agree with everything Og-15 said. People with those misconceptions about Vince do not watch the games the Raptor fans watch. Shapecity: I can agree with only one person on that list which is Ben Wallace. Ginobilli? Dude is talented but he can't carry a franchise on his back. Put him on the Raptors and they will lose worse than they are already. Curry? This guy hasn't done jack in his NBA career and you pick him over Vince? Thats really weird. You would trade that for 22 pts, 4.8 rbs and 4.9 as??? I would like to be Eddy Curry right now because to be valued higher than Vince is astounding. Iverson & Francis are a toss up. Has anyone seen the way Iverson has been acting lately? I think attitude comes to play here and he has a huge one. Big enough to be detrimental to the team. Francis has been playing awful this year, Vince has shown more than him at least.
Withaall these rumours of Carter being the next on the block, I hope he does not go away from Toronto, unless its for a franchise player who can bring in fans. Alot of the reasons for him to be traded are valid, but what other teams think t his way? Do the ohter teams wanthim? Let me rephrase that: Do the teams who have enough to offer for Carter want him? And besides, even if a team was willing ot trade for vince - assuming it was a marquee, all star player - they would undoubtedly demand another player. According Nike, this year was supposed to be his rebrith. I sure hope next year ill be. He has been turning in some very respectable nights. Its the injuries that suck. I always liked Vince as a Raptor, though I did doubt him after coming back from the injuries. He is a fixture in Toronto town. If we trade him we have to get somebody good in return, which IMO is highly unlikely
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KingCarmelo:</div><div class="quote_post">Was T MAC a Raptor?</div> This just proves that most of the people on JBBALL DON'T KNOW SQUAT

Eddy Curry? Diggler and the rest of your powerforwards are good, but they ain't doin anything on there own. They play on stacked teams. Manu Ginobilli? Ha, take vince off the team, and slap in Ginobilli and see how many wins the raps get. You are showing a very small Basketball IQ with some of these players. Just cause someone is a good player on a stacked team dosen't mean they can lead a crap team like vince does. NO RESPECT I TELLS YOU, NO RESPECT
