<div class="quote_poster">Quoting DDC:</div><div class="quote_post">Did you guys know that Wilt starred on the movie Conan the Destroyer? (With Conan being the governor of California LOL) Wilt looked pretty cool, he was a huge warrior who seemed to be switching sides from the good guys to the bad guys and was eventually killed by Conan. I just saw the movie yesterday, it was cool in a retro kind of way. Anyways, it was nice to see Wilt, even if he was not playing ball, but wielding a strange-looking mace instead.</div>Wow, I didn't know that. I might have to go watch that one.
Yeah I saw that movie. That's when Wilt first started to work out with Arnold, I believe. That's when rumors started that Wilt can bench 500.
I love Wilt. Any person who loves and respects NBA history needs to have lots of love for the Dipper, however estimatin' his greatness based on his competition is relatively useless. Wilt changed the game. He was a very athletic 7'1 basketball player who nightly competed against guys who were 6'9 or less. Lets look at some of the other noteworthy 'centers' in the League..better yet I'll just use the ones Rudeezy listed... First off lets look at Wilt...he was 7'1 and 250 pounds..his NBA career spanned from the '59/'60 season until the '72/'73 season...now lets examine some of his compatriots... Bill Russel 6'9 215lbs played from 56-57/68-69 Kareem Abdul Jabbar 7'2 225lbs played from 69-70/88-89 Willis Reed 6'9 235lbs played from 64-65/73-74 Wes Unseld 6'7 245lbs played from 68-69/80-81 Elvin Hayes 6'9 235lbs played from 68-69/83-84 Dolph Schayes 6'7 195lbs played from 49-50/63-64 Nate Thurmond 6'11 225lbs played from 63-64/76-77 Bob Lanier 6'11 250lbs played from 70-71/83-84 Of the centers who were anywhere close to 7' in Wilt's day only one played in the league and played against him long enough to merit any comparison and that's Nate Thurmond. Nate was nowhere near as athletic of gifted as Wilt and Wilt often dominated him...Thurmond played against Wilt in 8 seasons... The rest of these guys either were way too short to bang against Wilt or didn't play him in his prime to compare how good Wilt really was...he only played against Kareem in 3 seasons and they had a limited amount of meetings... As for the Bill Russel comparison it is widely known when the two met Wilt dominated. he routinely outscored and outrebounded Russel, yet because of the results of Celts usually winning it gets misconstrued as Bill dominating. The Celtics usually won because they had a better and a deeper team not because Russel dominated. Some of these matchups are comparable to putting Scottie Pippen on Shaq. Sure Pip is one hell of a player, but he is overmatched completely and unable to stop Shaq. In my mind to really look at how good Wilt was we need to look at his dominance over a period of time not who he played against. To me what says the most about Wilt is to come to the Lakers and be comfortable in his role..decreased scoring and increased commitment to the team concept. Wilt was so used to being the man it would have been understandable if he balked at becoming a second fiddle...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post">Lets not forget he also said he slept with over 2,000 women. He has my respect for that alone</div> over 100,000!
as great of player he was, he was even a greater person. Out of at least 20 supersport stars I have met, Wilt was the nicest. I should take a picture of his autograph hehe. Bill Russell 6'9 215lbs eh? wasn't russell more like 6' 10" 235?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Big Nasty:</div><div class="quote_post">not that I've ever seen. Every resource I have has him at 6'9....</div> Same here. Keep in mind that when he started his career, 6'9" was quite tall for an NBA player, and that players didn't really train with weights as much as they did even in the 70's and 80's, so 215 wasn't that small. I think he was closer to 220 or 225, but by today's standards that's still fairly beanpolish. But his low weight also contributed to his famous nimbleness that allowed Russell to seemingly challenge every shot.
Great insight Big Nasty. I agree with a lot of that. It is rather hard to compare Wilt to the current players in the NBA. Wilt was dominating in his day and no one should be able to take anything away from that. Its not his fault he was a freak of nature. He holds so many records it is ridiculous. He is the greatest player in NBA history if you ask me.

He took the center position to another level and showed that guy's 7'+ didn't have to be plodding giants but they could be as nimble and athletic as guards. Wilt dominated and did things no one ever did before. But in my opinion Jordan is still the greatest. He was the first guard to carry his team defying the age old adage that you built teams around big men to win titles. Michael also took his position to another level doing things that no guard before him had ever done...but it's all objective anyways.. Wilt : Most Dominant MJ : Greatest Player Ever Russell: Greatest Winner Ever Thats my take.

hey everyone,,,,i just wanta say Wilt's records are so amazing....but I also like to say 2 things i find quite amazing on their own. 1. Wilt lead the NBA in assists in a season (only Center to do so...not sure what season). and 2. a man of his size....never did foul out of a single NBA game. Quite amazing considering most big men get into foul trouble..i found that on its own quite amazing on its own lets not forget how nice of person he was and what I think the best player of all time.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting micki_mouse:</div><div class="quote_post">I think the best player of all time.</div>Couldn't agree with you more.
well guys to be honost a guy which probobly avraged a triple-double in his first seasons is the best if a player avarage 50 pts and 25 reb for me it's gggggggrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaatttttt
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BBall Guru:</div><div class="quote_post">over 100,000!</div> 100,000 GOOD LORD. It was over 20,000 women, got that JET magazine saying that. And he lost his virginity at 5 because he was already 5 foot something. Remembering him telling Howard Stern that.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Progidy:</div><div class="quote_post">To me, there is no such thing as the "greatest ever"</div>Because of the "different eras" deal?
He was basically Tim Duncan with KGs athleticism and shot. except he couldn't shoot free throws hahaha. you know they changed the NBA rule about not being able to land beyond the free throw line because all the coaches were afraid he would just get a running start and dunk the ball every time and never miss a free throw. that woulda been scary, imagine hack a shaqing shaq when shaq could shoot FTs like Peja. i also forgot to say moves that anyone short of Hakeem should be envious of.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KG is the MVP:</div><div class="quote_post">He was basically Tim Duncan with KGs athleticism and shot. except he couldn't shoot free throws hahaha.</div>He was bigger and more athletic than Duncan but that is a pretty good comparison. Oh yea, Duncan isn't a great FT shooter either. Despite that, Wilt still holds the record for most FTs made in a game, 28/28.
