Look at their awful lineup, UGH - PG - Van Exel/Claxton/Zimmerman/Johnson/Oliver SG - Richardson/Pietrus/Sura SF - Dunleavy Jr./Torres PF - Murphy/P.Jones C - Dampier/Foyle/Eschmeyer I don't know about anyone else, but they went from a playoff contender to one of the five worst teams on my list.
Horrible Trade this is a joke i cant belive this. A Great Backup for the best player on the warriors. I dont belive it untill its officall. Maybe the raps can get Foyle if there trading good players for crap.
Ummmm..........Im speechless at this deal. I never saw this coming in my wildest dreams. I dont understand Golden States position on this. What in the world were they trying to do with this deal??? As for the Mavs, they made out like badits. Fortson is a solid defender and a tremendous rebounder on top of Jamison is a steal. They can be considered title contenders now. I look for Dirk to play more of the SF slot and for Jamison to play PF. Dirk has a better perimeter game and thats where he can be most deadly. Nash, Finley, Dirk, Jamison, LaFrenz/Fortson. The Mavs will be on fire this year.
Before everyone criticizes the deal, lets take a closer look at it: GS trade Jamison. Good choice. Before I hear posters coming back screaming "22/7," remember this: Even with Jamison doing that, the Warriors still couldn't make the playoffs. What does this mean? It means GS has figured out that they are not a playoff team. They lost Arenas, and that definetly takes them out of the playoff picture. With their cap figure, they are over the team salary cap and would be paying the luxury tax? As an owner, would you pay the luxury tax for the next 5 or so years, when your team wont make the playoffs? I sure as hell wouldn't. What a waste. GS knew this, and decided to address this.........by reducing salary and starting to rebuild again. Van Exel's contract is shorter than Jamisons. And Van Exel fills a need; PG. He will be at PG, make no mistake. Richardson will be at SG, and Dunleavy at SF. Claxton has proven to be a good backup. He hasn't proven to be a good starter yet. Van Exel has. GS now has a very good PG(even is his salary is high; and he is old). Van Exel lit opposing teams up in the playoffs; one of the reasons Dallas was doing so well(until they lost). So this is a payroll dumping move. Foyle, Sura's contracts come off the books next year. And Van Exel's does the following year I believe. Now, had Jamison stayed in GS, it would mean that GS would have nothing but the MLE to lure a FA PG in. How many good PG's would settle for the MLE? None. (And dont say Payton; he was a different situation, wanting to win a title). GS had no choice. And it was a smart decision to do so. So what are they left with? Well, this clears room to Dunleavy to play. Dunleavy is a SF. As is Jamison. You don't draft a SF at the #3 spot to be a backup. So I am not totally shocked at this trade(more shocked it happened with another Western Conference team). GS will be left with this: Van Exel/Claxton Richardson/Sura Dunleavy/Pietrus Murphy/??? Dampier/Foyle. Plus, they should have a top pick coming up, where they should be able to land a young PF if they want, or a good PG prospect. Face it; GS wasn't going anywhere with Jamison and no Arenas. They had to rebuild, and reduce payroll. They did that. Now: What will really irk me is if the next poster comes in here and says "Dumb GS, why would they make such an idiotic trade.....what were they thinking?"...........when I just listed the reasons why GS did it. For the record, was it a good trade for GS? For what they are doing, and what they are attempting to do, yes. Its not an equal talent trade....but it was a good move for their future.
This is going to create another wave of trades. Word out of Orlando is the Magic are really trying to get Adonaly Foyle, They are thinking about shipping Steven Hunter and Pat Garrity to the Mavs for Eduardo Narjera and Adonal Foyle.

Good defensive presence in the middle. But he plays for GS. How would the Mafic trade Hunter and Garrity for Najera and Foyle? And I doubt this happens. Dallas does not need another soft guy/shooter(Garrity). Najera is a good defender, hustles, rebounds, and never backs down.........Dallas loves him bec. of that. I don't see Dallas parting with him if they can help it. A consumate team guy; a glue guy.
WOW ok the west are beasts now lakers mavs wolves spurs and kings when the east plays them in the reg season there guna get atethe finals are gunna be a joke
This is an absolutely great trade for the Mavs, I don't know about the Warriors though. They were up and coming, NOT NOW
If anyone does not know yet hear are all of the players in the deal. The Mavericks are sending Van Exel, center/forward Evan Eschmeyer, forward Popeye Jones and veteran point guard Avery Johnson to Golden State for Jamison, power forward Danny Fortson, small forward Chris Mills and guard Jiri Welsch.
good trade for both teams but i think the mavs got the better end with Jamison....mavs need a player like him.
this surprised me. fortson is a good player, IMO, gs just hates him, so it doesn't surprise me that they would trade him in the deal. i guess what vintage said is true, but i still think they could've gotten better, i mean they could've traded jamison for terrell brandon or something like that if they wanted the salary. i hope the magic deal garrity/hunter for foyle/..... that would be great.
I can see this deal working out for the warriors. One of the Warriors' worries was that Pietrus, who could be a top flight SG/SF, would be buried on the bench because of J. Rich, Dunleavy and Jamison. Some even speculated that the Warriors would have to trade Richardson to make room for Dunleavy, Sura, and Welsch. Now that Jamison's gone, I can see a good lineup (not as good as the team that almost made the playoffs last year, but still not too bad like most of the people on this board are making it out to be.) C- Adonal Foyle/Eric Dampier PF- Troy Murphy/ Popeye Jones SF- Mike Dunleavy, Jr. (who has really improved over the summer), Mikael Pietrus SG- J. Rich/ Welsch (tore it up with Dunleavy in summer league)/Sura PG- Van Exel/Claxton (who will eventually get more PT) What we're seeing is a completely different lineup than last year's, with the 2 best players missing. However, the Warriors might still be able to pick up where they left off at the end of last year, especially with Musselman running things.
wow...madnes!! absolute shocker deal! in ref. to vintage's post...the only thing is that the warriors werent a playoff team last year, but they were in a battle for the last playoff spot, and finnished with their best record in a long time. with a team as young as they were, with all the players they had, they were a team on the rise, and if they kept that core together, they could have contended at least for a playoff birth in the next couple of year. this move just shows a major lack of patience in the rebuilding process...when they finally have a great core of players, they let it all slip away. i agree, that once they let go of gilbert, it was all downhill...so it makes sence to unload jamison. great deal for the mavs...they look STACKED
mavs, lakers, twolves, spurs, kings are defenitely seperating themselves from the rest of the league. it wouldn't surprise me if all of them got 60+ wins. , can't wait to see the games against each other.
Opening day of the season Lakers v Dallas OH BABY!!! can't wait... and guess what...Mavs play the Warriors the 2nd game of the season...that should be interesting as well
Wow! What a surprise! Fortson is a great rebounder when he is healthy. Jamison is All* caliber, and Welsh still has not reached his potential.
