I love parity and am so glad that the NFL is really the only sport where it abounds. Are they trying too hard to maintain this philosophy? I am sure you have seen the highlights where the punt hit the ref & he downed it at the two. Carolina, then, was forced to take over at that point. The ref was an obstacle to the natural flight of the ball and should have moved. Carolina, rightly, would have had the ball on the 20. Fox's appeal was denied which only validates my theory. It only takes one play to ruin a season. Ask Dennis Erickson who still might be the Sehawks coach had the refs called that game right i.e. Testaverde did NOT score.
i remember that game!!!! my dad lost a football pool because of that one game! your right... it tales one play to ruin a season.... think bout the super bowl.... Casay blew it
BA, I completely understand your point regarding the Seahawks and a single play changing a season. I didn't see the play you are describing from the Carolina game. Did the Ref. call the play dead because he touched it, or did the ball naturally die and nobody played it after he touched it? Did he attempt to get out of the way and was just old and slow, or did he just stand there like an orange pylon?
2 qtr Saints are up 7-0 against the Bucs. There just coming off a bad start of 1-4 and are now 5-7. Aaron Brooks steps back. Looks deep, throws to Joe Horn, inbetween to defenders(threading the needle) in Joe Horns hands. It's a touchdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, no wait he dropped it. It was in Joe Horns hands, most probably one of the best throws by A. Brooks, and Joe Horn dropped it. Bucs go on to win 14-7. Oh wait, i got more. Saints and Eagles, Saints are 5-6 coming off a bad 1-4 start. Saints are on the Eagles 1 yard line. Haslett has just challenged a catch 3 plays before, witch he did'nt win. Charged with a time out Haslett is'nt to happy right now. Saints on the 1, they give the ball to Duece. He's in, it's a touchdown!!!!!!!, oh wait the refs say no he was'nt in. Let's look at the replay. Yeah he looks in to me. Yeah Haslett should defenitley challenge this play, but he just used a timout and i don't think he's going to. Ok Saints on the 1, they give it to Duece again, it's a fumble. The Eagles recover the ball, first down Eagles. 33-20 Eagles.

How did the play end? Did he or another ref blow it dead (because of the touch) or did the ball eventually die and then they blew it dead?
hey it takes one play remember Arizona VS Vikings last year. WOW that is a good example of one play making or ruining a season

The ball died after hitting the Zebra.
how about the eagles onside kick vrs. dallas to open up the 00 season? that started the eagles run, and ended the cowboys.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (blackadder)</div><div class='quotemain'>The ref who got hit blew it dead. The ball died after hitting the Zebra.</div> Well then in my opinion that's two F-ups. He shouldn't have gotten in the way, and when he did he should be considered part of the field of play. If a passed ball is deflected off the Umpire, don't they continue play? That's how I remember it. Otherwise, everytime a fumbled ball hit an official the play would have to stop.
