The Easy is sorely lagging this year. : (

I know that the records probably won't end up like this, but look at this stat I have:

From the current NBA.COM standings, the team with the worst record in the west, currently Phoenix at 7-10, is good enough to be the 7th seed in the East, currently New Jersey at 7-11, if the playoffs started today. This means that every team in the west has a good enough record to be in the playoffs in the east if the playoffs started today.

Also, if excluded division leaders, the only teams in the east with a good enough record to make the playoffs in the west are Indiana, Detroit, and New Orleans. Sad to say the NBA is becoming the Wild West and the Easy East. : ( The restructuring won't help too much, because they'll still be the Western and Eastern conferences.

Yep I was interesting to read about a week ago that every West team would be an Eastern playoff team, and in that instance the worst West team was an 8th seed, so it's moved up one. Once again it seems that there'll be Western teams missing out on the playoffs that would be 5th and 6th seeds in the east.

Myabe they should take Charles Barkley's advice and, barring a couple of teams, blow the east up.

Yea the east is weak, they even said on TNT. Sixers are 9-10 and they lead their division... i'm sorry but that is poor.

But if you notice, its mainly the atlantic division, while the other division has some decent teams.

this restructuring will not do enough. there is literally no chance that the east will be the west head to head for the finals.

hell the nba should just open up the conferences and put the 16 best teams in the playoffs, at least the "2 best" teams would be playing eachother.. too bad most likely 10+ of the 16 teams would be in the west :thumbsdow

It's all cyclic. This cycle around, it's the West, the AFC & the AL. Check back with me in 5-8 years.

Yeah, good point. These bad teams will be lotto time, and possibly their franchises will be looking up.

Just gotta be patient. Remember a time a few years back when Chicago, Indiana, Orlando and Miami were among the NBA's elite, and most people thought the Bulls stopped an Eastern team winning the title, not the Western team they'd defeat in the finals. It'll come around again.

Good point Joey F, that's why in the 80's with the Lakers and Celtics and then the Pistons, Bulls, and Rockets the NBA was more popular. More evenly balanced competition and compelling finals, unlike the predictable playoffs and finals of today.

the east is a joke. any of the top 12 west teams can beat any east team (cept maybe indy and detroit) in a 7 game series.

    East VS West

I know that this has been brought up a lot over the last several years (and in a lot of posts), but right now it's as crazy as it has ever been. There is such a disparity that it seems like it will take a really long time before things even out again.

I believe that it's a cyclical thing, and that the East will eventually regain the power. And it might very well happen if more players like LeBron stay in the east, or big men decide that the east is an easier place to try to win. Before that happens, we are stuck in the heavy tilted powers of the western conference.

As of today Saturday, Dec 6th, 2003, the west has only three teams that are playing below a .500 record out of a possible 14 teas.m Those are the LA Clippers (6-9) ,the Golden State Warriors (8-9), and the Phoenix Suns (8-11).

On the other side, the east has only five teams playing above a .500 record out of a possible 15 teams. They are the Pacers (16-4), Hornets (14-7), Pistons (14-7), 76ers (11-10), and Raptors (11-8).

This all means means 78.5% of the teams out west have winning or even records (11/14) and 33.3% of the teams out east have winning or even records (5/15). That's just shocking. There are gonna be teams in the east that make the playoffs that have losing records... if this keeps up. [IMG] [IMG] :thumbsdow [IMG]

It is going to be even worst next season when the Hornets move out west.

Yea, makes you wonder if this is EVER going to change. What's more interesting is, I see the 3 teams that are under .500 coming up closer to .500, think about it. That win by the Suns last night has to wake them up, maybe they'll get on a roll. Clippers have beat some tough teams this year, and just got Brand back. And the Warriors are a good team, they'll be over .500 quickly.

The east has just got to hope players like

    Lebron
    Darko
    Wade
    Ford
    Davis
    Bosh

Can become the big time stars as they are expected to be.Thats even if they manage to stay with these east teams. You have to expect seeing these top draft picks later on as they start to produce while turning into stars maybe move to a big team time for more money and you normally find that in the west. The east has a lot of bright young future stars to work with..Keeping them there however is a completely different.

All right guys, the reason East were so powerful in the 90s was because of Michael Jordan and rest of his Chicago Crew, and Shaquille O Neal, Penny Hardaway too........... but MJ plays the main role here............ ever SINCE MJ retired in 1999 positive things start happening to the West but now Shaq moved to the West, and a lot of dynamic All-Stars are on the West, Kevin Garnett, Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Stevie Franchise

Wow, some amazing stats. It is frustrating, as a Warriors fan, to see them miss the playoffs and then see teams like the Magic get in.[IMG]

I Think the difference is in the inside players. How many inside dominant players are in the east? In the west? But with the high draft selections for the east teams it will change. Chris Bosh will be the king of the east!

Yea, the Magic are 1-19 right now but are sadly only 8 or 9 games out of first place in that pathetic division that they're in. So, sadly, if they put together a run and the 76ers start to tumble, they could win that division. Though, I don't see that happening cause they just can't play good team ball. It's just 5 individual efforts is what it seems like to me. They don't play together. Oh, and you said Bosh will be the most dominant player in the East here soon? Well, as far as I'm concerned, as long as Jermaine O' Neal, AI, TMac, as long as those 3 and some others are still there, he won't have that title. Especially considering he's playing on a team where he won't average more than 15 ppg because of Vince Carter.
