Magic Johnson and Larry Bird whos better I know these two guys are legends in history of basketball, earvin johnson and larry bird, they both had tremendous amount of respect towards each other, so i ask for you guys opinion on whos better and why? Larry Bird was a better shooter and a scorer he lead his celtic team into one of the best in the 80s so ill go with Larry Bird for this one..........
Two very different players, two players who are legends of the game and two guys who were team leaders who led their respective teams to a lot of success. Comparing them will get you nowhere.
I don't like this either, both of them helped make one another even better. I despise "who is better than who" threads.
Its impossible to really say ,its just a never ending argument..But i personally prefer Magic because hes far more exciting to watch-the passes....etc Larry Bird reminds me of what an 80s farmer would look like playing bball.
You can compare stats and championships and whatever else you want, but beyond that both these players played amazing basketball. They were two of the smartest men to ever play the game. Larry said Magic was the better player, Magic said Larry was the better player. Magic was a flashy player who would outthink you. Larry was a cocky player who would tell you he was going to hit the gamewinning shot in your face then do it. To me they will always be equal.

Of course Magic did it more consistently because he was part of Showtime, but Larry Bird is just as exciting a player as Magic.
I like more flashy players, so I would pick Magic. Of course Magic had his fundemantals down also, but those crazy passes are what got me hooked. Larry was, and still is the best shooter the game has seen. The guy was phenomenal. In the end, I pick Magic!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BC:</div><div class="quote_post">They were two of the smartest men</div>That?s the word, smart. This makes a player different.
this hard to say. I think Bird had a stronger ability to lead a team. But with that said, everyone needs a point guard, and I think i'd rather have Magic leading my team at point guard rather then a small forward.
Really, in the grand scheme of greatest ever, Magic and Bird will always be known as just that - Magic and Bird, or Bird and Magic - and thus will always be equal. Their career awards are eerily similar - 9 all-NBA first squads, and 3 MVP's. But Magic had one more Finals MVP awards, and I think one more All-Star MVP award also. However, Larry had the better numbers, because he was a 20 ppg scorer and Magic was not(not that he couldn't've been, but for his career he wasn't). Magic's assists were phenomenal, since he does have the highest apg average of all time, but Larry's assists rank high all time as well, and he also averaged more rebounds. Magic was the better winner, however, with more titals and Finals appearances. But he also had a better team. McHale and Parish were great, but they really can't beat Kareem and Worthy. It's what you should expect from a trio of first overall picks coming together. If I had to pick one, I'd say Magic was more valuable simply because he had the ball in his hands more. Larry did have some famous steals, but Magic was considered one of the greatest steals artists early in his career, and once he had the ball he could do so many things, because he wasn't just pulling his own strings, but the strings of his teammates, like a puppeteer in high tops.
