I was wondering the same thing the other day. Maybe in the NBDL or something, he was good at Arizona, I guess the NBA was too much for him.

hes not an amazing player, but surely he could give some team some decent minutes off the bench...he put up decent numbers in vancouver, had a good couple of seasons...how is it a young guy like him isnt even playing in the league???

From what I saw from him, he was a lazy player. He could provide scoring, but nothing more than an average player imo. His ability to be a good player in the nba is/was limited. Also, I know injuries stalled out his career.

yea, but cant he take some time off and come back? i mean retiring? isnt that a little extreme this early in his career?

or maybe he just wanted to retire..maybe he didnt have a passion for the game? [IMG]

They sat out and nursed injuries, but you can't expect someone with a broken knee and a ripped up groin to come back and play professional basketball.

Dickerson would have been a 20 ppg career scorer.

I feel terrible for the guy.

Dickerson was a very good player, but the same injury and 3 years playing 10 games or something like that it?s hard.

He was a pure scorer which would of gone down as a good 20 a game player.Shame that injuries have put his career down.He also killed me on NBA live 2003...Could never miss from outside.

Dick was supposed to be their main scorer after the big summer of '01, when they had the Reef and Bibby trades. But Gasol and Battier's rookie year was his first on the injured list, and they kept holding out hope that he'd come back eventually. I think West showed his impatience(not that it wasn't justified to some degree) when he traded for Mike Miller last year and signed Posey in the offseason.

He retired because the Griz want to go the Terrell Brandon route, meaning that they probably payed him, though i don't think it was a complete buyout, and now his salary doesn't count against the cap for them.

It is a shame that he couldn't keep playing. I mean, this was the Rocket's starting pg ahead of Cat Mobley when they were both rookies in '99, and he had a couple strong seasons in Vancouver. A real loss for basketball fans.

That sounds like a bogus trade now, but if he was never injured he might be up on Francis' level.

Yes Dickerson played as a Rocket, 98-99 he was a rookie and played 50 games for them scoring 10.9 a game. His 2nd season he was traded and played his best season, 82 games, 82 started, scoring 18.2 a game. Next season he played in 70 games scoring 16.3 a game, but thatw as the last time he was healthy, played only 10 games after that.

I am confused as to why I believed he was drafted the same year as Steve Francis. My mind is playing tricks on me.

You probably just thought that since he was traded for Francis after his refusal to play in Vancouver. Understandable mistake.

Houston gave up the better of their two rookie shooting guards from the previous season, which was Dickerson, so they held on to Cuttino Mobley.
