This thread could really go somewhere if we don't turn this into another Lebron-Carmello debate. Look at all of the rookies on the list and then post your thoughts.

Aside from the obvious, I'd like to point out Chris Kaman's contributions. 12.3 ppg, 10.5 rpg and 1.75 bpg. Looks like he's starting to live up to his billing as one of the best big men of the draft.

He is the next Karl Malone with the way he throws those elbows around and pushes people.

Someone will smack him back (Should have been Ilgauskas)

You know, I used to think this was just you being a homer.....but you do raise an interesting point.

Stats
16.5 ppg 6.9 rpg 6.4 apg 1.3 spg 39.9% FG 31.5% 3-FG 70% FT
18.8 ppg 6.9 rpg 3.1 apg 1.25 spg 39.8% FG 33.8 3-FG 75.6% FT

Look how close those numbers are.

The numbers are VERY close which is exactly why they should at least be at this stage co-rookie year.

There is a point to this topic. To not make it another Melo-LeBron thing like TB said, it would be the same as the other topic floating around here, it may be hard to not mention them, but lets look at some of the other rookies who aren't getting as much attention.

Besides the other 2 who are also creating a known buzz around the league Bosh and Wade, Josh Howard and TJ Ford look like 2 players who can contribute big in a couple a years. Sure, Ford isn't the greatest shooter, only shooting a poor 32%, but he is a PG who can spread the ball around and get everyone involved. In full time, I think he can average around 8 or 9 assists a game. Also Howard, who is also starting to see good minutes, is contributing well in the time he has got to play.

If it's weekly based then 'Melo should be ahead of 'Bron. However, you can't split em at the moment, you can only split their teammates. Nice rankings this week. Josh Howard I agree is a guy who looks like he could be a bit of a steal, solid college player but he's turning into a very nice pro too, especially in Dirk's absence. Chris Bosh is starting to explode...

I'm not gonna really bring this to Lebron-Carmelo, but I'm just gonna say that Melo has gotten better.

Wade, Bosh, and TJ Ford looks like a great future for the East. Bosh has been playin great as of lately, and look at all the help he has around him. Wade has to battle with his Heat, and Ford with his 9-11 Bucks. I really like Ford, he is so short and he spreads the ball great. I think his shot will improve as he goes, but if your short its hard to have a good shot since your so short. He'll get better tho fasho...

I think Bosh will become in the picture of ROY as the season moves...

I said Josh Howard would be the steal of the draft before it even happened.I saw quite alot of his games last season..He is a stud plain and simple.Very underrated.Which is why I was dissapointed to see him go to Dallas...Not enough court time for him over there.

PPG: 18.3
RPG: 6.70
APG: 3.1

PPG: 16.5
RPG: 6.90
APG: 6.4

I know the numbers look pretty similar, but I'd go with Carmello because Denver is tied for first with Dallas at 13-7, and Cleveland is in the cellar at 5-15.

Laker_Fever_834, I'd really appreciate it if you would grow up. You know that I was trying to avoid this type of bron-melo thread, but you purposely went in this direction. You even posted pictures of the players! Cut the crap

Back on topic, what rookies have you guys been impressed by? Do you agree with the rankings?

This 'Carmelo is better because his teams record is better' stuff is getting real old, now we can get back on topic. [IMG]

Bosh has impressed me so far. He's been huge for the Raptors and last week he averaged a double double of 14.8 points and 10.5 boards.

TJ Ford was the player I had my doubts on. He reminds me a lot of Earl Boykins when using his speed to make up for his size. He has played great as well.

I agree with the list, it should be a close race for ROY. I second allnet for the co-rookie year idea.

Well lback on subject.. ford is leading his team with 6 assists right now...not shooting well at all and hedoes have 3 steals. He only gets 27 min a game but he looks as if hes a great freethrow shooter. Interesting how he barely gets to the line each game.. if he could get there more, his points would go up.

If he gets to the line more and maybe gets those points up, he'll be a contender.

TJ Ford has been impressive in the way he's become an ideal floor general. However, he reminds me alot of the best point guard of the '98 rookie class, Brevin Knight. Both are undersized, lightning quick point guards who can pass and steal like anything but have trouble putting points on their stat line. Brevin was a great prospect when he was starting, but teams got tired of him quick that he doesn't score as much as other guards. Look how he's bounced from Cleveland, where he had an ideal rookie year, to Atlanta, to Memphis, to Phoenix to Washington. I'm afraid that unless TJ exhibits some scoring prowess soon, he may go the same way when Milwaukee starts hurting some nights to put up points.

^^^He MIGHT be a contender? I hate to tell you this, but the only contenders here are that guy who plays on the Cavs #23, and that one guy on the Nuggets who wears #15, I try not to name them.

Now back on subject to "other rookies".

Best debate would be for who will be on the all rookie teams.

1st team
Bron
Melo
Wade
Bosh
?

2nd Team
?
?
?
?
?

Go ahead, now this thread can get somewhere for these other rookies.

I think that the three guys who will probably make the rookie first team with Them Who Shall Not Be Named are Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, and then either Chris Kaman or Jarvis Hayes.

Jarvis was the third best rookie of the opening weeks, but his numbers will continue to drop especially when JStack gets back. I think it depends on how Chris comes along and plays alongside Elton now that he is back and healthy. It may either take away touches or help him that there's a presence on the opposite block.
