I've sat back since the start of the season and watched, after last night, 3 no. 1 ranked teams lose convincingly, leading me to believe that there is no clear cut no. 1 team in college basketball this year. Though if i had to pick one team to win the national championship as of right now i would have to pick The UNC Tarheels, because they have a perfect combination of power and speed, although i would say that they lack depth of big men. If you had to pick a national champ right now who would it be ?

The Tar Heels are at number 9 so I dont think they will be number one next week. uConn will be number one if they dont lose IMO. Maybe Mizzouri or Duke.

Right now Uconn have the best overall team I feel.Although Arizona look really good.So quick up and down the court. They have as good a starting 5 as anyone.Their only problem could be lack of depth.

They had to get a 6'6 3rd string qb to play on the team because they lacked size. They have a 6'4 201 pound center. . They do have a good starting lineup but it is pretty small aswell. I think teams with good bigman that are 6'9 or bigger will be able to beat them. Sean May, Sheldon Williams, David Harrison, Okafor will eat Arizonas front line.

Don't be so sure.Guards are more effective in college basketball than the big men.Arizona have some amazing guards.Shakur I feel will be one of the top freshman in the nation...He could be a great point guard for them.Him and Stoudamire in the backcourt are very dangerous. They also have one of the best all-round players in college basketball..Andre Iguodalia.Hey and lets not forget Hassan Adams.

I'm not trying to jump on the Arizona bandwagon here but I feel they should get some credit. They will make some noise and surprise some people.

You are biased and overrate Duke, while putting down any other school Duke has a rivalry with like North Carolina. Your opinions are uneducated and formed solely from your blind love of Duke basketball. When you get older, can not get into Duke, and go to some other college or C.C. then you'll realize that I am saying.

Just give North Carolina some "props" and don't turn this into a "Duke is so great, UNC sucks" type thread with your rediculous subtle comments.

Im not biased or overrating Duke. Duke is ranked 4th I think so there a great team but on the justbball offical rankings they were 6th and North Carolina was ahead of them I think.

At this moment, I do not feel as if there is a true number one team. This year there has not been one team, that has simply been amazing where I could sit back and say, "That is the best team in the nation."

If I had to pick a number one ranked team right now it would have to be UNC :gasp:

Missouri has Gonzaga, Illinois, Memphis, and Iowa left. They're most likely going to come out of that stretch with one or two losses. North Carolina has Wake Forest and Kentucky in the next month. They'll likely lose one or both of those. Then you look down to Georgia Tech. They've got to go into Connecticut and Ohio State then play Texas Tech before conference play starts. Oklahoma has Connecticut, Missouri, and currently Purdue in the next month.

To sum it up, most of the top twenty-five teams who are undefeated will most likely lose a game before conference play.

My prediction is that if Purdue can come away with a win against Oklahoma then you'll see them ranked number one in the coming weeks.

    Good, I said -

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">My prediction is that <u>if</u> Purdue can come away with a win.</div>

So since they obviously lost, my new favorite for the number one team in the nation in the coming weeks is Oklahoma.

You sure like to give big jumps to teams in the polls, don't you? Even if Purdue won they would not have been the number one team in any week. Oklahoma's chances are higher than Purdue's of course, but it is still very unlikely that they will reach the point of being number one.

Although the polls have Oklahoma and Purdue in the middle of the top twenty five, I believe they are top ten.

I felt that if Purdue went undefeated into conference play then they'd be the only team currently in the top fifteen to do so and thus achieve a number one, two, or three ranking. The same can be said about Oklahoma. They've got to play Connecticut, who is their biggest competition for that number one spot, and if they win while staying undefeated heading into Big Twelve play I guarantee you they will be number one.

If Oklahoma goes undefeated heading into Big XII play I guarantee they will not be number one. Regardless of how well they are playing there will always be a team that was already ahead of Oklahoma that will be playing better. Whether it be UConn, Duke, UNC, etc., a team that was already ranked higher will hit their stride and remain at or near the top.

Whether it be UConn, Duke, UNC, etc., a team that was already ranked higher will hit their stride and remain at or near the top.</div>I'll take you through this step by step -

1)Oklahoma is currently #11 in both polls (I'll be basing this breakdown on the AP).

2)With Texas (#6) losing and Oklahoma beating the #16 team (OU's second top twenty win) I believe Oklahoma will move up to #10 in the polls putting Texas comfortably where Oklahoma was last poll (#10ish).

3)I believe that Kentucky (#8) will lose tomorrow inside a packed-house at Ford Field thus dropping them and moving Oklahoma to #9.

4)I believe that Louisville will win at home against Florida thus moving Oklahoma up to #8 in the poll. This is not far off. Louisville is practically a ranked team and Florida is coming into their house.

5)Missouri whom I feel is the most overrated team in the polls (#3) has Gonzaga tomorrow and Illinois later on in the month. I believe they will lose one of these thus putting Oklahoma into the #7 spot. This turn of events would make the polls look like this - 1)Connecticut 2)Duke 3)Kansas*** 4)North Carolina 5)Arizona 6)Georgia Tech 7)Oklahoma

6)Let's wrap this up. If Oklahoma wins the rest of their games untill conference play then that means they beat the number one team in the nation, UConn. Duke is likely to lose to Texas. North Carolina has Wake Forest before Oklahoma starts conference play. Arizona has Marquette tomorrow. They might be worn out from the recent game against Texas. Marquette (6-0) is a dangerous team and I am picking them for the win. Finally, Georgia Tech and Kansas are left. Kansas has Oregon/Nevada left and Georgia Tech has St. John's left. I doubt that either team will lose any of those games. So then that leaves us with the scenario in #7.

7)Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, and Kansas will all be fighting for the number one rankings. I'd pick Oklahoma. Kansas is ranked higher, but they have less ranked wins and Oklahoma would have the edge after beating the number one team in the nation (UConn). I'd pick them over Georgia Tech because while they both would have beaten Conneticut, Oklahoma would have wins over Michigan State (#6) and Purdue (#16) while Georgia Tech's best win outside of Connecticut would be Texas Tech (#25). The voters will look at that and put Oklahoma #1.

That's a large shakeup, but it's not impossible. This is what I honestly feel will happen.

Texas, Kansas, Arizona, UNC, and Georgia Tech create the bottom half of the top ten. Georgia Tech and UNC already won and I believe Arizona will win the game against Marquette. Kansas will beat Oregon. With Texas losing to Arizona they all those teams will move up (Kansas #6, UNC #7, Arizona #8, GTech #9).

Illinois is really struggling while Missouri will be coming off a great win over Gonzaga. They just lost Deron Williams for three weeks also. That's why Missou is likely to win that game and not move at all in the rankings or move up pending on what else happens (Kentucky loss).

Kentucky can very well lose to Michigan St. today. If they do, though, they will only drop to around fourth while Duke maintains the fifth spot.

At this point I see Oklahoma safely in the top ten. I don't see UConn losing any games. I believe Duke will beat Texas, but if Texas wins then Duke will drop only to around the eight or nine spot. By then Texas will already be out of the top ten so they won't affect Oklahoma's rankings any. So here's what I see things looking like:

    1. Duke (beats Texas)
    2. Kansas (beats Oregon and Nevada)
    3. Arizona (beats Marquette and Texas)
    4. Kentucky (loses to Mich. St.)
    5. Oklahoma (beats UConn)
    6. Georgia Tech (defeats St. Johns)
    7. UNC (defeats Wake Forest)
    8. UConn (loses to Oklahoma)
    9. Missouri (lost to Gonzaga and beats Illinois)
    10. Florida (lost two games)

Texas drops out with losses to Duke and Arizona.

*edit* Missou lost to Gonzaga so I have made changes accordingly (I still think they will beat Illinois).

My mistake. At worst UConn drops from four to eight. From there I'd move Missouri down to around the nine spot while OK moves up to six with Georgia Tech going down to seven. I'll edit accordingly.

Actually I edited it more than I thought I would and put Oklahoma in the top five. They would actually be closer to number one than I thought and can be arguably number four, but that's as far as I believe they can go.
