Without a three second violation, Shaq would easily be able to get position, right under the basket. He could then sit there all day until he gets the ball, he could then turn around and score at will. He would be unstopable and the Lakers would probably never lose a game so long as he stays healthy. I never thought about it, but decreasing the size of the lane would actually be the best solution to the problem. One thing that is lacking these days is good post play on the block. By shorting the paint you give the players the ability to play physical basketball without having to worry about getting a violation. Brilliant.

Teams must make 3 passes before taking a shot I know it sounds far-fetched but after watching a game from the early nineties and watching a game now it makes so much sense. People back then actually moved the ball into a position where someone had the best chance to score. Nowadays one on one play is a lot more prominent which hurts to watch. Just looking at the Bulls with two greats in jordan and pippen moving the ball around at least 4 to five times each time in a half court set makes me wonder why other teams today are not that unselfish. One of the only teams that I see that plays unselfishly is the Sacremento kings, watching them play ball is like poetry in motion. People are cutting constantly ALSO the NBA should not let highschoolers into the NBA, college is where most of the fundementals of the game are taught.
The two things I would change... 1. This was metioned earlier in this thread, but i'll say it again. They need to widen the court slightly. Too many players stand at the side of the court, behind the three point line and when they drive, they put their foot back for momentum and they step out of bounce. 2. This idea is going to be a little controversial but I truely believe in it...Adopt the 1-and-1 rule for freethrows. It's bogus to me how a guy fouled in a non-shooting situation (i.e. loose ball foul) should be able to get guarenteed 2 freethrows. It's ridiculous....or when a guy gets called for hand-checking 30 feet from the basket...so so frustrating...
Good point about the 1 + 1 free throws, they used that rule up until the late 70's I believe. If nothing else, it would be another way to get players to work on their free throws, I like it. :thumbsup:

Pro's are paid a lot of money and they still cannot make free throws. This should help get them in the gym practicing free-throws. I mean if these guys are pros they should be making both free-throws. I have no problem making them make the first to be able to shoot the second.

I've got a few suggestions but one that would have immediate benefits for the NBA's marketing strategy would be to give a stiff fine every time that you are shown on-camera using foul language. The league is marketed as family entertainment - stopping their players from swearing on the court would go a long way towards cleaning the "thug" image that mainstream america has in their mind of today's NBA.
Oh yeah - the other biggie... Give teams the freedom to send a player down to the NBDL up to 3 times and still maintain rights to that player. This would allow the NBDL to be a true minor league and make it more popular as a means of development. As it stands now, a team that sends Player A down to the NBDL loses their rights to him. That's why you see so many players drafted and sent to Europe - if the player is drafted and opts to play in Europe the NBA team that drafted him retains his rights.

But when I say 'back court' fouls, I'm talking about the all-too-common tactic of stalling the game by using fouls as soon as the ball is inbounded. Guys can press full court without fouling, that's the idea, to put on pressure and perhaps get the steal. But usual backcourt fouls slow down the game, which isn't fun for fans.
I am big on the no swearing thing. An occasional cuss word is ok on the court however there is no need for someone to do it right in front of the camera. I remember a few years ago, my mom got me an autographed soccer ball from the Houston Hotshots when one of thier players said the F word on TV. I wish I could get that now with the Houston Rockets. :shrugs:
