Just saw Peter Vecsey on the BDSS, and according to him the Clippers will do everything within their power to bring Kobe in next year. Reportedly, even at the cost of trading away Corey Maggette. To me this is just plain stupidity, Kobe is very good friends with Corey. Logic says Maggette would a big reason Kobe would consider the move. I would accept trading away Q-Rich, but why trade Maggette in order to max-out the budget with Kobe? Maggette is a cornerstone player, and as a Clipper fan I do not want to see this team with Kobe at the expense of losing Corey. What they should do is take that 10-13 mil. and make a run at an unhappy Jason Kidd. That would give them the veteran leader at the point that is so sorely needed and thrust them right into the elite in the west. What about a starting lineup consisting of: PG - Jason Kidd SG - Quentin Richardson SF - Corey Maggette PF - Elton Brand C- Chris Kaman With key role players like Wilcox, Drobjnak, Jaric and Rice coming off the bench.
Maggette is not only good friends with Kobe but they have the same agent too I believe.Maggette in my opinion is a future all-star.Plays a very good all-round game that can score, rebound and pass the ball pretty well.He can also get to the line VERY WELL...He really is the future of the Clippers. If anyone would go to make room for Kobe it will be Quentin Richardson.

He signed a maximum deal with NJ this offseason. I doubt NJ will simply trade him away for nothing........my guess is that they wouldn't consider it without receiving Brand in return.
I apologize for the oversight, he did sign a new deal with the Nets. Although, New Jersey is crumbling as a franchise right now, they're being sold, shopping for a new location for an arena and getting ready to blow up that roster if the season does not turn around. If Kidd wants to leave, he will force a trade. His wife, being an aspiring actress could as well factor into this. Maybe a trade could not be completed directly between the two teams, but in today's market there is usually a third or fourth team involved in most NBA deals. Someone else like Portland may be interested in getting involved in a trade to purge their roster of Rasheed Wallace. Jersey has expressed interest in Wallace, and Portland could definitely use a scoring guard like Richardson. How about something like this: Wallace to Jersey, Kidd to Los Angeles, Richardson and picks to Portland (contingent upon him first signing a new contract in the 50 million dollar range). Jersey would then trade Martin off (who will not be re-signed for 85 million as he thinks he deserves) to a lottery team with cap space or for a younger point guard. Of course the money has to match in most cases, but a deal like this would work out for all involved. So, instead of Richardson in the starting lineup, Jaric would move to shooting guard. The Clippers might also soon have Travis Best coming over for Ely which would give them another veteran point off the bench. Sound feasable to you?
No. It would be ideal for Portland and LA, but again, recieving Wallace for Kidd isn't ideal for New Jersey. I think if these three teams were involved, they'd push to recieve either Brand or Maggette from LA or Zach Randolph from Porland. If they were trading Kenyon they'd settle for Wallace, as they've indicated in the past. I think a sign and trade deal concerning the LA teams is more feasible, but again, i just doubt Kobe will leave the Lakers, who consider him their future. After Shaq leaves it will be his team. If something were worked between the Clips and Nets, it would probably be Kidd and Martin for Brand and Maggette. That would work salary wise too I think. Then New Jersey would probably trade Jefferson for a point guard(Bobby Jackson?) and the Clips would have to get a hold of a 2 guard. Might work, but I'm doubtful that either franchise is desperate enough to shake their rosters up this much.
If Jersey is going to let K-Mart walk, they'll need a PF. Wallace is playing the three at the moment because of Randolph, but he's a true 4. He's still a fairly young player and a pretty damn good one at that. I think he would be happier on the east coast and could not be any more of a headache for the Nets than Martin has been. This is all assuming that Kidd wants out after this season, which in my opinion is very likely. In any case, I wanted to attach this piece from NBA Insider on ESPN about the Nets and their current woes: http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/story?id=1689121 "If changing the coach won't help, what will? The Nets are out there, trying to make a deal, but Thorn's hands are tied, because he doesn't know what, exactly, he can take back in return. There's a general feeling that the new ownership in New Jersey doesn't want to pay out a huge extension to Kenyon Martin, but what isn't clear is what they'd be willing to get back in return for him via a trade. If Thorn gets back friendly salaries or draft picks, where does that leave Kidd? Stuck with a six-year contract on a team that's rebuilding -- that's not the scenario he signed up for this summer. Given the amount of heat Kidd already is generating in the locker room, is it just a matter of time before Thorn decides Kidd should be the one to go? He's the player who can't seem to get along with Scott, and he's the guy who makes so much money the Nets have very little cap flexibility. Thorn loves Kidd and knows the Nets have zero shot at a championship without him, but if they must dump Martin to get under the luxury tax, how realistic are their title chances, anyway? If the Nets have to start rebuilding, they may be better off in the long run moving Kidd and keeping Martin. Martin won't be able to get max dollars on the open market next summer, meaning the Nets should be able to work out something more reasonable for him. As for Kidd? Maybe it's time to admit a mistake and give R.C. Buford a call in San Antonio. You have to believe the Spurs would be willing to give up Tony Parker, Ron Mercer and Robert Horry for Kidd. The move would give the Spurs their superstar point guard to pair with Tim Duncan, and it would give the Nets one of the brightest (and cheapest) young point guards in the league. Mercer and Horry would come off the books next summer, clearing enough room for the Nets to re-sign Martin and stay under the luxury tax. In the summer of 2005, Kerry Kittles and Dikembe Mutombo come off the books, which will free up enough room for the Nets to pay Parker, Jefferson and Collins without getting back into luxury-tax land. Given the financial realities that face the Nets right now, it may be the only way to get the spending under control and keep a good, young team on the floor." Sounds like rebuilding mode to me....

Even if he wasn't in his last year I don't think NJ would ever go for that trade due to the fact that Wallace is so-called bad-seed

I'm still thinking no on a Kidd deal unless New Jersey sees a legit star come back, although the Parker deal is the most realistic I've seen. It's not mentioned in Ford's article, but now that Ginobili has emerged somewhat in San Antonio, Buford/Popovich may be more willing to give up Parker, once seen as the only future for the Spurs backcourt. I'd say a Kidd-Ginobili-Bowen-Duncan-Nesterovic team, with the guys they have on the bench, could easily return to the promised land.
