Just throwing this one out for all the Jazz fans. I have a very good friend here in Southern California who is a die-hard Jazz fan, and according to him the people of Utah have no interest in seeing Ostertag stick around after this season. Until his performance this year I would tend to agree with him, but right now 'Tag is actually looking like a decent NBA center. Wha' happened here? Is it simply a matter of 00 stepping up his game just in time for a new contract, or has he really re-dedicated himself?
Utah will try to resign him. But he's been overpaid, so if he resings he'll be getting less than what he is now. He knows he wont be a free agent for long so he might try out the FA market. But Utah will try and not let that happen because after Ostertag, who do they have to play Center? Jarron Collins. He will put up numbers like 6 and 4 as a starting Center. Up until this season, the people of Utah used to laugh at Ostertag and make jokes about him, but they value him now.
Pretty much what I thought, I laughed at him as well. He's been grossly overpaid at something like what - 6 mil per? He should take a hometown discount if they actually want him back. Otherwise he'll probably take another team to the cleaners for a new big money contract, then revert back to the old Ostertag. It will be interesting to see what happens.
The Jazz are one of the best teams for Ostertag. He's been with them for a long time now, and gets more minutes than he should because of the lack of depth. If he does leave, it will be partly to do with the fact that he and Jerry Sloan don't get on and he could be suspended by the team often.
