If it's true, Mercer can really bring a lot of O to the Detroit bench. I can see him playing big minutes in the 3rd and 4th. He hit some clutch shots while with the Bulls(to beat Lakers in the Shaq-Brad Miller fight game), and I bet he can do it again if given the chance.

And reunited with Billups, his former 'future backcourt' mate? Awesome.

I Def. think that would be a good move for SA...But, i still think they are shooting themselves in the foot for changeing things up from last year.....

Mercer has lacked confidence all season with his shot and basic all-round game.He hasn't been getting the minutes because he hasn't been getting the job done in practise.Sura and Hunter have been playing well although Hunter is now on the IR.With Atkins back there really is no need for him

If I was the Pistons I would do that deal. Sura is a decent guard, but Mercer can score.

That's true. Thinking from a Spurs pov though, I would think that Hunter would be more enticing than Sura just because it gives a reliable backup to Tony Parker.

Either way, I think the only real difference is age. Hunter is a little better from the perimeter, but Sura is a better playmaker. I still don't think the Spurs are getting enough in return for Mercer, I would ask for Rebraca as well.

Now that Mehmet Okur has blossomed, the Pistons probably wouldn't mind throwing him in, something unthinkable two years ago when they had so much hope pinned on him.

Yeah, I heard about that trade. I think that given the right offense, Mercer can score a lot.

Are you kidding me? There is a reason why Dumars has been trying to clear cap room all summer. To re-sign Okur at the end of the season.Joe D said he wants to lock up Okur for as long as possible. However he feared that teams like Nuggets and Jazz will offer him good money that would be tough to turn down.So he has traded away players just for cap space. He is still trying to do that.

Okur is a great talent. He can rebound like crazy when given the minutes.

I would like to see the Sura - Mercer trade happen. For what ever reason, they are not going to give Mercer playing time. Sura would be a good backup for Parker and he can defend well. The kid also has some hops. It would be good to see a point guard in San Antonio that can take it to the hole and finish. Go SPURS!!

I agree. Sorry I was misleading. I meant that now that Okur has blossomed, Rebraca will be much easier to let go. I know Okur is in the long term future of the Pistons. They thought that about Rebraca, but after Okur came out last year and Rebraca got hurt, all those old plans changed.

I was referring to OG's mention of Rebraca in the previous post.

Sura is nice, I like his hard work ethics. He is not afraid to step up to any player, just ask Allen Iverson. l'd do the trade, a young fresh guy is what the Spurs need, I think, Mercer is not giving them anything lately.

Mercer is younger than Sura. But I agree, Mercer doesn't provide much, and what they need is someone who comes in and gets hussle stats, not someone looking to get their shooting touch going. Sura puts up the numbers by just playing.

    Mercer

From this, it seems as if Ron has been doing a better job, but I like Sura better. Somehow stats don't matter when talking about these two, at least in what I'm thinking. Sura will provide that spark off the bench, ala Bobby Jackson, but not as explosive. Mercer however, goes in and gets the five points basket by basket, it's hard to expalin to what I'm thinking, but I hope you all can understand me, somehow at least.

All Mercer can do is score.Thats it..He is a terrible defender. Can't rebound and needs 30+ minutes to score 15 points.Shoots bad from the field and can be a cancer.I was hoping a new start in San Antonio playing with the back to back MVP would make him a better player. That certainly hasn't been the case

At least Sura can play strong defense and attack well.Hunter is decent when given the chance.

The trade IMO will not affect the Spurs, but It will help out the Pistons. The Spurs are just going after a man that will work hard for their team. Smart move by both teams IMO.

It think Memo will easily average double digit rebounds now that he has been moved into the starting rotation. Bobby Sura is still recovering from minor injories, and he's a great playmaker, but he can't put up anything on the scoreboard. Ron Mercer is a solid scorer, something that the pistons need more of. Rebracca is playing horrible, there is no way he should remain on the Pistons Roster next season, expecially since Darko should be moved into the rotation. I really hope that Joe D can lock up Memo, he'll defintelly be a furture all-star and has nothing but good things coming up for him.

Mercer wouldnt seem like a Larry Brown type player- someone who can just score and nothing else. I would be surprised if this trade happened because I can see Mercer getting locked in Brown's doghouse quickly.
