A deal for Wallace before the Feb. 19 trading deadline isn't likely, but the Mavs could be in hot pursuit of the troubled star when he becomes a free agent after the season. Expect the Mavs to be mentioned in almost any trade rumor dealing with Wallace -- or almost anyone else -- from now until the deadline. The team's brass, however, insists it is done dealing unless a "no-brainer" is presented. </div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Mavericks, according to sources, would be interested in signing Wallace to a contract starting at the mid-level exception, expected to be about $5.4 million. I can but it won't happen. You really think Rasheed will settle for the MLE? don't think sther teams can offer him alot more and will.Wallace is the kind of player Dallas needs IF he plays in the post...and crashes the boards. However that is a big IF.
What I don't is why they would want him. I mean they are stacked at PF and C. It just doesn't make sense unless they move Jamison, Dirk, or Walker. Plus even if they do that they would still have too many star players and not enough balls to go around. I hope they dont turn into a Portland like team.(all stars, no role players)
The Mavs problem is exactly that right now,They have no guys who will go after loose balls..Hit the open shots or play great man to man defense.Good examples of that is Losing players like Adrian Griffin,Reja Ball,Walt Williams.Big reason why Dallas were so good last year was because they had guys who knew their role on the team along with the stars. This season they have plenty of stars but not role players.
Josh Howard and Najera provide that to some degree. I disagree that Dallas is stacked at center. They have Fortson and Bradley who are their only guys who play there, except for the few times Dirk plays center. If Rasheed can crash the boards hard and block shots, he's be returning to his natural position that he played in college. However, I agree that not only would he not settle for the MLE, he wouldn't want a reduced role.

However, they shouldn't trade him for Wallace. At least, not Rasheed Wallace. I think if they could pry Ben Wallace away from the Pistons they would improve a lot. The Mavs need some better defenders, and I can see them trading Walker for someone like that. Not that they'd get Big Ben, I know he isn't on the trading block. I wonder whose idea it is in the Mavs organization to just stack the team with offensively gifted players. I mean, do they think that simply by allowing the other team a lot of points and having enough players to answer those points they'll win a championship? Don't they know defense wins championships?
I agree with allnet. They got rid of the ones who were willing to bang themselves up just to get a W. Dallas is my team and all but some things they do are pathetic!

To get anywhere in the playoffs you have to be able to play defense. I am surprised that they didn't realize this already. I hope the Mavericks have something up their sleeve. I mean it is just crazy to stack a team like that on offense while not even making a move to improve their defense. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Defense wins championships</div> Wiser words were never spoken.
