Who do you think is the best point guard this season?

For being the first option of his team, I'd say Baron Davis. This is a no brainer. Among the top candidates for MVP is Baron Davis, and I think that he's the best PG MVP candidate (if not the only). He needs to work on his shot selection, but that will come like it has with Antoine now.

For being just the second option, I'd say Sam Cassell is great, because of his great FG% (51%) and clutch shooting.

Has to be Baron so far, but Sam Cassel is a great point guard who gets almost zero recognition. Talk about a clutch performer.

Baron Davis no doubt, hes the only PG up for MVP so that would mean he would be the best PG this season. He is carryin the Hornets (18-11), without Mashburn and is playin great bball.

I am a huge Jason Kidd fan and I think he is the best PG in the game. However he has not been the best PG this season. You cannot really argue that Baron Davis has not been the best PG this year. Here are his stats:

Ranks #5 in the NBA in Points Per Game(23.7)
Ranks #2 in the NBA in Assists Per Game(8.4)
Ranks #2 in the NBA in Steals Per Game(2.69)
Ranks #3 in the NBA in Minutes Per Game(41.0)
Ranks #2 in the NBA in Minutes Played(1188.0)
Ranks #2 in the NBA in Field Goals Made(249.0)
Ranks #1 in the NBA in Field Goal Attempts(642.0)
Ranks #1 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goals Made(86.0)
Ranks #1 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goal Attempts(274.0)
Ranks #15 in the NBA in Free Throw Attempts(157.0)
Ranks #3 in the NBA in Assists(243.0)
Ranks #1 in the NBA in Steals(78.0)
Ranks #3 in the NBA in Points(686.0)
Ranks #16 in the NBA in Assists Per Turnover(2.83)
Ranks #12 in the NBA in Double-doubles(12.0)
Ranks #16 in the NBA in Field Goals Per 48 Minutes(10.06)
Ranks #3 in the NBA in Field-Goal Attempts Per 48 Minutes(25.94)
Ranks #1 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goals Per 48 Minutes(3.47)
Ranks #8 in the NBA in Assists Per 48 Minutes(9.8)
Ranks #3 in the NBA in Steals Per 48 Minutes(3.15)
Ranks #12 in the NBA in Points Per 48 Minutes(27.7)
Ranks #7 in the NBA in Total Turnovers(86.0)
Ranks #9 in the NBA in Total Efficiency Points(610.0)
Ranks #15 in the NBA in Efficiency Ranking(21.03)

His only two things, I could complain about is his FT% (65%) and his turnovers(86). However since he plays PG, his turnovers will be higher than anyone else on his team.

His team is 2nd in the Eastern Confrence also.

That being said, how can you not say he is the best PG this year?

I'd say baron Davis too, he's also one of the best players in league this year, and MVP nominee this far in the season.

Baron Davis clearly wants to be this years Antonie Walker in terms of poor shot selection.Shooting 10 threes a game isn't getting it done.Although You can't moan about his stats or his team record.

Reasons? I'm not tryin to call you out but a lot of your posts are 4 words and done. Some of them aren't even serious, try to give some reasons to your posts...

And as for Kidd, no doubt hes a great PG but the Nets aren't playin too great. They are 14-13, but they should be better cuz the fact that they have Kidd and he has a lot of talent around him. He is still a great PG, but I think Baron will be up for MVP which puts him up for best PG.

Anyone watchin the Rockets-Lakers game? Its a good game.

Kidd is the most skilled player in the NBA at this moment, but the Nets are losing and players like Kidd are dependant on how their teams do because their best quality is their incredible leadership, so if the Nets are losing his standout ability isn't standing out as much as it can. Sam Cassell doesn't get the recognition he deserves but hes not the best PG in the NBA. Marbury is a fool, if he was smart both he and KG would either already have some extra jewelry or would be getting some soon. He wanted recognition, I can guarantee a championship would get him more recognition then being a one man show, hes a stupid fool. PGs can't be stupid fools, they need to be intelligent leaders so hes out of the running. Baron Davis, hes got good numbers but like someone mentioned earlier, hes almost as bad as Antoine Walker at shooting when he shouldn't, and thats the last thing a PG should do so hes gone too. As much as I hate the lakers and as much respect I've lost for the Glove for being manipulated and single minded and seflish as he was, you've got to give him respect for keeping Malone, Shaq, Kobe, and himself satisfied. GP gets my vote as much as I hate it.

With Marbury I think it was more ego than stupidity. We've all made poor decisions and bad mistakes in our youth that we now regret. Marbury was in his early twenties when he played with KG and instead of having the attitude of "let's stick it out and make it happen together", he decided he wanted to go home and shine on his own. It just ended up being a poor choice on his part in the short term. Remember though, his career isn't over by a longshot. He's still only 26 years old, playing alongside two pretty talented players in Marion and Stoudemire. "Starbury's" greatest success is yet to come. You do make a good case for Kidd - he is the most talented PG in the league, but not the best this year in my opinion.

I still stand on Baron Davis. Two seasons ago (in the year of the Kidd), I would've said Jason Kidd. Regarding Starbury, IMO he should've stayed in Minnesota. KG and Marbury would've been like Stockton and Malone. Luckily, we're over our PG troubles, and now have Sam Cassell, who IMBO (in my biased : ) opinions), is the best PG.

I wouldn't say that. His 3pt fg % isn't bad(.314), and although he shoots almost 10 a game he hits 3 a game. If he keeps up his pace he might break the single season mark for 3 pointers.

There are numerous reasons, but bottom line is that Baron is the best. Dex gave the rankings to back it up, and consistency is another. He is the floor general of the Hornets, and the reason they're 18-11 is because he consistently gets numbers that make it easy for the rest of the Hornets to play.

In his past 12 games, he had lows of 16 points and 4 assists, in two separate games. If you discount these low numbers, his next lowest he had were 18 points and 5 assists. Lows which other point guards struggle to get. The only point guards who even average 18 and 5 are Chauncey Billups, Lebron James, Sam Cassell and Stephon Marbury. Not Kidd though.

And if you look at the PAR(points + assists + rebounds) value, a good measure of a player's all around worth, of the top pg's in the league, you see:
    Baron Davis (23.7, 8.4, 4.3) = 36.4
    Stephon Marbury (20.3, 8.4, 3.3) = 32
    Jason Kidd (15.8, 9.4, 6.2) = 31.4
    Lebron James (19.3, 6, 6) = 31.3
    Sam Cassell (20.1, 7.4, 3.3) = 30.8
    Steve Francis (17.4, 5.1, 5.6) = 28.1
    Chauncey Billups (18.7, 5.3, 3.6) = 27.6
    Jason Terry (17.6, 5.1, 4.4) = 27.1
    Andre Miller (15.6, 6.1, 4.6) = 26.3
    Mike Bibby (16.1, 5.6, 3.6) = 25.3
    Steve Nash (14.4, 7.6, 3.1) = 25.1

There are only 11 point guards who have PAR's over 25, and B Diddy is head and shoulders above them as the best overall point guard. He is also first out of the above pg's in steals as an added measure.

I focus on numbers here because we've already seen that he's a winner. Baron has never missed the playoffs in his career, and now has carried his team to the second best record in the East while missing the team's best scorer.

Baron Davis is best this year, but not by much...Kidd is second with Francis 3rd

...a special mention to a pair of PG's...Kenny Anderson and Anthony Johnson for teaming well together for us this yr [IMG]

Come playoff time I know what point guard I would rather have.

Jason Kidd..without a doubt. He has led his team to back to back NBA finals appearances while being a triple double threat every night.Still not confident that Baron Davis will produce when it matters. The fact Baron has great skills at attacking the basket yet settles for 10 three-pointers a game is very odd and stupid.
