Griffin To Philly <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Billy King, the team's president and general manager, said that the Sixers would check out forward Eddie Griffin, the native of Philadelphia who was waived Friday by the Houston Rockets, but that it would be only as a matter of routine. "We do that with everybody, whenever anybody gets waived," King said without indicating whether the Sixers had any interest. Griffin had been undergoing treatment for emotional problems at an undisclosed facility from which he was released earlier this month. He faces charges in connection with an alleged assault on a female acquaintance.</div> Joe Juliano The Philadelphia Inquirer Full Article (scroll to bottom) This would be an alright signing for the Sixers, if he came cheap that is. As you look at the situation right now, we are in need of anything we can get our hands onto. He could contribute as a much needed rebounding option, and low-scoring option. I think the first agenda that comes to mind though is his personal status, we would want that resolved first and then to get on with business. Thoughts?
Nets,Knicks and Pistons are also interested in signing him.I personally think it is a risky move.Do we even know if he will play again? He has so many problems at the moment...I don't think you should expect to see him sign anywhere or think about basketball at this stage. If he keeps his head on straight then he could be a good player. He was a top 10 pick for a reason.
Teams are looking at Griffin only because of his potential and shot blocking, not because of his offcourt behaviour. Whoever he signs with will be taking on a big bet, the Rockets waived him for a reason.
He is a good player, could have matured into one of the best. What sucks is when you let your emotions take over like he did, I really think he has something special inside of him.
His talent is unquestioned, but his mental and emotional stability is a whole other matter altogether. Eddie should not be playing basketball right now. Not because he doesn't deserve another shot, but because at this point in his personal life, he's dealing with a wide array of issues that require every ounce of his energy and attention. Right now, the most important task for Eddie Griffin the person is to get himself right. He's a very young, talented individual who is obviously having serious problems battling his personal demons. He needs help dealing with these issues before even thinking about returning to the NBA. There have been way too many like him that have seen their careers and in some cases their lives cut short due to similar indiscretions. It would be a shame if Eddie becomes known as just another sad statistic on that long list. If he gets the help he requires, is contrite about his actions and sincerely ready to make the necessary changes to his life and attitude, that is the day I would welcome him back with open arms.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting franchise3:</div><div class="quote_post">I'll laugh if Jerry West sees his talent and signs him.</div> Why would you do that? Jerry West is probably the best GM in the NBA right now. Him and Hubie could really develop this kid's talent into a force to be reckoned with in the league for many years. Those two combined just might be what Griffin needs to help mold his potential and make him that truly "special" player that he can be. I do agree with Ogshowtime though in that Griffin need's to get his personal issues dealt with before he even thinks of returning to professional basketball.
I hope the Sixers get him, but for caution reason don't sign him for long term. We need to get anythin "good" we can get on our team to help out AI and everyone else. He can back up Kenny Thomas which would be more than great. He has potential inside him, I really hope we sign him.
It's funny, the Nets traded Griffin to the Rockets on draft night for 2 1st rounders, eventually turning ouit to be Collins(starter) and Jefferson(starter)...now they have all 3. Man the Rockets got RiPpEd!

So they have all 4.
