<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">New Warrior has turned the negatives into positives OAKLAND -- To get to know Nick Van Exel, to really understand him, you'd have to appreciate loneliness. You'd need to be left alone as a child hour after hour, day after day, to comprehend why Van Exel tends to isolate himself, to fend for himself, to not easily trust people who want to trespass on his cocooned world. The new Golden State Warriors point guard often is misread in terms of his true personality. But, beware, he's reading you as you're reading him. Loneliness does that, makes you cautious and wary of others. The 10-year NBA veteran turns 32 later this month. On Thursday, he discussed how his childhood shaped him in a conversation with staff writer Dave Newhouse:</div> Full Interview and Story ========================= What a life Nick has had to go through. This explains a lot of questions about his personallity. Do you really blame him for being so distant to everyone now? I encourage everyone to read the full article...very touching.
Nope I dont blame him. Cant say my life was exaclty like his but, im one who can say I comletey understand why hes like that.
I don't think that we should read too deeply into this. Yes, it explains some aspects of his personality, but doesn't explain his attitude. I have read comments made by various GMs concerning Nick the quick, and they all think that he is a punk. Isolation as a child does not justify childish behavior.

Growing up "unloved" has negative effects on people when they grow older, as Dee stated. I am not justifying his behavior, but you can't really blame the guy.
After that reading that, I become more of a fan of Nick's. Sure, he has done some things he might of regretted, but I mean, can you blame him. He was obviously brought up in a bad household, and wasn't taught some things about life. But, he certainly has improved on his acts from what I've seen.
that was a nice article...it's nice to read things that go a little into the personal lives of players, as long as they're willing to tell it. i've always liked nick, and his game, since he was a laker. he's a nicer guy than everybody probably thinks.
