I wish that NBA teams would stay out on the court after they win at home and celebrate the win there instead of just going immediately into the locker room as soon as the clock hits 0. I am a Miami Heat season ticket holder so this has really been getting on my nerves lately.

It gets on my nerves when the team I have supported for years through many tough times finally gets a win at home and just storms off into the locker room when the entire arena is giving them a standing ovation. It just seems rude at times like they're ignoring the fans.

I like to celebrate wins too! You would think they would enjoy being out there on the court after a win with 17,000 fans giving them a standing ovation!

At NFL games, after a win both teams go onto the field, the coaches shake hands and talk about the game, they do interviews on the field, all while the fans are in the stands savoring the win with their home team. The same thing happens at NHL games, after a win at home, the away team will go into the locker rooms while the entire home team goes out onto the ice and skates around celebrating the win, waving at the fans, etc.

It's the LEAST they could do for the diehard fans paying a couple grand for season tickets or 150 bucks a pop for individual tickets! It makes the fans feel like they're involved and really supported the team, but how can you support a team when they don't even so much as thank you for supporting after a win?

I love my home team and always will, I just really wish they would show more appreciation towards the fans, especially the die-hard ones who support them through thick and thin, good times and bad, instead of just basically saying "screw the 17,000 fans giving us a standing ovation" and go storming off into the locker room.

If the home team loses, that's fine to go straight into the locker room, but after a win they should thank the fans for screwing up the other teams free throws and pumping them up to pull off that clutch 3 pointer!

Anyone who has ever been to an NBA game where the home team wins knows what I mean. During the playoffs they'll stay out there on the court and celebrate with the fans, I just wish they would do this during the 41 some odd regular season games they win.

I completely agree. It just takes away from the exitement of the game. Especially if it was a very good game and the home team had a comeback win. The fans became very exited that the team came back and won, and then they just walk off the court?

The should stay and celebrate like the players do in every other major sport.

Yeah, you bring up some good points.

I think it would be nice for them to stay out on the court and enjoy the win. Let the fans enjoy it with them.

    I agree also

You would love going to games in europe..The players have a team huddle then thank all the fans by clapping towards the stands. It really does show they care about your support. It's just the american lifestyle have never bothered.Which is why when americans go to play their basketball across europe they have to be told to thank the fans after the game...They havn't done that before...Just the way it is and I don't see it changing.

Good point allnet. Here in England after football games, the players always do a procession round the pitch clapping and thanking the fans.

I think we've noticed and pointed out that they celebrate with the fans after the game in almost every major sport EXCEPT basketball. I think that this would not only greatly boost fan support, but would bolster team morale, as the players would really appreciate and understand how much the fans are rooting for them.

17,000 fans? I thought you said you had season tickets to the Heat? Just playin' :P

Honestly, I don't see a big deal in the players just going to the locker room. Often times the fans are the ones who leave the game early in order to try and beat the post-game traffic. Teams usually do stay on the court for a while after big wins, assuming the win just came on their home court. I would say basketball is the sport where interaction with the fans is higher than any other sport. Which other sport allows their fans to have seats as close as basketball? In hockey there's the plexiglass separating fans, in baseball the fans are way out in foul territory or high up in home run territory, in football there's a whole lot of space on the sidelines that separate fans and players. During basketball games you often see players hyping the crowd up, conversing with fans, and playing off the fans energy. That happens moreso in basketball than any other sport, I believe.

I'm going to have to disagree with this one. This would be kind of 'cocky' and rubbing in a victory, and also showing disrespect to the away team. I can't immagine players staying out on the court, clapping and looking at their fans enjoying the win, just not original, if it's not for something special like some kind of record or championship.

It's not cocky or disrespectful at NHL, NFL, MLB, MLS, NLL, NCCA, and nearly every other sporting event on earth, so why would it be construed as cocky and disrespectful at NBA games?

If celebrating is considered disrespectful to the away team, then so is handing out large yellow tubes to wave behind the baskets and putting "SCREEEEAM" on the jumbotron to screw up their free throws :P.

It's a tradition at NFL games for the coaches to shake hands afterwards, regardless of the result, and this ensures that there are no hard feelings and it emphasizes good sportsmanship.

While I completely agree with your idea Accord, the NFL is different in other ways. The team celebrates at the end of the game, but they cannot celebrate during the game or else they get an unsportmanlike conduct penalty, and possibly a fine.

On the other hand, there are in-game celebrations in the NBA, it is much more individualized.

I don't know what this has to do with the topic though. [IMG]

I don't think that it would be cocky and disrespectful if it is at the end of the game. The other team already left, so let the home crowd stay and celebrate.

PyroManiac, this entire thread is about celebrating after the game is over, not sure why you're talking about during the game, lol [IMG].

If the players would just stay on the court for two or three minutes after they win at home, that would be great and is all i'm asking for. Rather than going into the locker room immediately after the game and giving each other high fives and whatnot, why can't they just do that on the court for a couple minutes? Are the relationships in the NBA between teams so bitter that coaches can't even shake hands?

Back in the glory days of basketball, teams would be on the court for 30+ minutes celebrating with the fans and it was a great time. Every fan at the game looked forward to the win for the celebration afterwards.

At NFL games, you'll see fans in the stands for 30+ minutes just cheering, pumping their arms, etc. At NBA games if you're still in your seats for more than 2 minutes after the game is over, you'll be asked by an usher to leave!

I brought it up because you said "good sportsmanship" at the end of the game. Somebody else brought up it being cocky and you brought up a player shooting FTs. FT's aren't at the end of the game.

I was just saying that in the two sports, they celebrate at different times. Anyways, I still agree with Accord, they should stay on the court for a couple of minutes to just hear the ovation for the crowd. It will get the fans more exited about the team.

I haven't been to many games, mostly because it is a five and a half hour drive to get to the nearest one. [IMG] The ones that I have been to, though, I felt like the players didn't pay any attention to the fans. I remember Grant Hill got a three right before the buzzer for halftime at one game and he just ran right to the locker room. Maybe they don't realize that the fans want to see them. Basketball players always get grief for "showboating" and so you can't really blame them for being reluctant to celebrate on the court. They get fined for just about anything these days.

I have to disagree on this one. When I watch the Magic games on TV after the game at home when they win Tracy Mcgrady,Drew Gooden,Tyronne Lue and others would do a couple of interviews and then on their way to the locker room they would stop and sigh autographs or shake hands with their fans. I've never been to a real live game so I don't no what you're talking about really. I just wanted you to know that some players in America do appreciate there fans after and before a game. It's others I could name but I just don't feel like. Remember though it's my opinion with some facts in it so don't go crazy over it.

I agree with TimFlem, in that some players do stick around and sign autographs.

But here's the question - do you want to send every bench-warmer that suited up for no reason out on mid-court with pom-poms and megaphones and start crowd chearing sessions? Just exactly how much post-game celebrating do you want to do after ONE regular season win? I go to see NBA games to watch basketball players play basketball (novel idea). I don't want a bunch of grown men runnin' around like they just won their first JV game.

And by the way, it does not happen in the MLB & NHL. They leave the field/ice and go shower.
