<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Karl Malone's fears were confirmed Sunday when team orthopedist Dr. Stephen Lombardo evaluated the forward's knee before the Lakers' game against Boston and concluded he likely won't play in the team's next game Friday at Seattle, according to Lakers spokesman John Black.

The team hoped Malone, who has been amazingly durable over his 19-year career, would return against Seattle after a three-game absence. But Malone expressed frustration at practice Saturday that he felt pain in the knee despite doing all of the prescribed rehabilitation.</div>

Let him get full healthy before he comes back, were not desperate for him back yet, and we should be able to win without him, though we really haven't. Because the last thing we want to happen is the ankle bothering Malone in the playoffs and effect our gameplan, or winning a championship and him not being a big part of it.

This will also provide an opportunity for guys like Brian cook to get on the floor more. I can't wait until this guy develops

Why would Cook be in the IR after he just played and scored on sunday? Is someone else returning?

YEa, cook is back and should get some playing time. He'll provide the lakers with another perimeter threat.

I think he might surprise a lot of people when he does start to get some consistent time on the court. He's a great outside shooter, and also rebounds well. I can't wait to see how he developes, having Karl Malone around as a role model is just about as good as it gets. If he can play tough defense, Cook has unlimited potential.

After watching games of Cook in college last year I came to the view that he can score and crash the boards decently. However he plays soft and doesn't play a lick of defense.

That's the x-factor. If he can learn how to get tougher on defense, he has a chance to become a fairly decent pro. If he can't bring up his level of intenstity, the Lakers have essentially nothing more than another Slava Medvedenko.

Now that you guys have mentioned Cook, I was thinking that maybe Phil Jackson should give these young talents some minutes. Because I'm tired of watching Horace Grant dragging himself up and down the court, I'm tired of looking at Slava missing shots from different sides of the basketball court. I want to see these young guys come in and see what they can do. Even though Luke Walton is only a rookie, Bill Walton is his DAD!! Who knows what skills he may bring to the Lakers if he's just sitting there on the bench? And Omar Cook....if he does have a great perimeter shot, i'm looking forward to see what he brings.

Well, I tend to agree that the youngsters need a little more PT. Walton did get some decent minutes for awhile, but lately it's been nothing but garbage time. Horace is the best thing the Lakers have at back for Shaq right now, there's nobody else to spell the big man. I'm sure you meant Brian Cook, but yes, I'm excited to see how he looks as well. We should find out soon.

Yeah good points OG, and only time will tell on the progress of these two young talents. I'm glad you like my sig, courtesy of Sir Desmond, and your avatar looks great too.

Yea, all of you guys made great points, I also want to see this guy play more, to see what he can bring at an NBA Level. He can crash the boards, and is another Laker big man who possibly could bring some decent offense. Slava is alright, but sometimes gets on my nerves because of his shot selection. Horace Grant doesn't bring much, it seems like when other teams attack the lane he just hacks the guy, and doesn't do a good job of contesting the shot.

Really? Thanks, I just tried to put something together with the retro jerseys, I love them. It's not the art work that makes the sig look good, it's just that nice blue popping out at you!
