I realize that Smith is a former first round pick with a lot of potential, and I also realize that he is the CBA Player Of The Week. However, do the Knicks need any more Power Forwards? They've got Harrington, Thomas, Mutumbo, Sweetney, Lampe, and McDyess downlow. I think they need to dump some of that rather than add too it. Who's next, Eddie Griffin?
Smith was with the lakers last preseason and I wasn't very impressed with him. I agree with Wave, do the knicks really need more big men?
I have a feeling that Isiah agrees with you too. Acquiring Smith might be an indicator that the Knicks are about to start some major transactions, and a sign that none of the New York big men are untouchable.
Provided Weatherspoon gets his walking papers, I assume Smith will take his roster spot. This guy has been a troubled individual in the past, I don't know he has his head right these days, but I still don't like this for the Knicks. Look at Portland's situation, guys like Woods, Wells (formerly), Patterson, Randolph, all loaded with potential. All of whom have also had nothing but problems keeping their names out the paper. He may still have game, but he's not worth the risk in my opinion.
