Quote:

Forget that two-front-teeth business. All I want for Christmas - next Christmas is fine - is two more feet. Not in height, but in width. And not for me, but the standard NBA floor. It stands to reason that with players bigger, stronger, faster and far more advanced and committed defensively than even 10 years ago, the solution to opening up the NBA game is to expand the playing area. (Check the difference in NHL vs. Olympic hockey to see what space can do.) In any case, it's been made pretty clear by now that rule changes are akin to using free ointments and eyeblush to turn back the clock. As a 50-year-old hooker will tell you, the shelf life of that kind of deception is pretty short and when it falls apart, the effect is a heretofore unimagined ghastliness. Why more width over more length? (Forgive that this is sounding like a penile implant infomercial.) One, because at least one NBA coach questions the value of more length. Two, I'm reasonable. In today's arenas, it would be harder to accommodate longer floors than wider floors.
A wider playing surface would give today's bigger NBA perimeter player more room to roam. ESPN.com
i just read this article on ESPN.. its a good idea but i dont think it is nessecary. cmon, just learn to shoot.. last year was a great year for scoring, i dont know what changed but i think the players should just live with it
I think this would be a great idea, and keepin the ranges for threes the same distance. Knowing that the NBA is at a new age, makin a wider court would also lead to harder defense. There is more room to move around for the offense and PG, he can slip back in the corner more than before, as more rooms to do his little cross over, etc. But this also means the defense can lay on some pressure on the offense and Zone D will be different, settin screens would be more effective in the corners, etc. I think this a great idea, but a bad for the US, since a lot of places would have to do a lot of repainting. Also would mean more stamina for players...

Learn to pass the ball, and conduct shooting drills in practice. Might help alot.
Why not learn how to shoot? All scoring problems would be solved! Don't change how the game is played, just practice and get better! That is what every player should try to accomplish!
I agree with the learning to shoot thing but only certain people can do but so much to learn to shoot. Even with that, it wouldn't make since having Shaq shoot a 3....some of the things you guys are saying isn't making sense. Making the court bigger will just spread the floor on offense and force players to play defense. It's not learn to shoot, it's learn to defend. Not everybody will shoot 70% if they work on shooting. You have to focus more on shooting not learn it. Some people work on shooting for hours and then miss everything in a game. Be reasonable with your assumptions.
Lack of fundementals is a major reason of the low scoring games ! most of the new players practice their dunks and drives and don't give a lot of attention to their jump shot, how about they practice their shooting drills before they think of a wider court look at LeBron's jump shot now comparing to preseason and beggining of the year ! he's shooting over 50% right now, because , according to Cavs insiders, he stays after practice to shoot the ball for an hour or so .. that's how u improve
It's rare to see a new thing come into the NBA with the majority of the fans agreeing on it. I say if they did widen the court, you would have complaints on your back just like the zone-defence.
