<div class="quote_poster">Quoting starman85:</div><div class="quote_post">Huh? Are you serious? If the Rockets offered Yao for Bosh straight up, the Raps would bite in a second. So would just about any team with a rookie this year except Denver and Cleveland(although even Denver might...). Yao will be the best center when Shaq fades and retires, and will dominate the post for years to come. Bosh will be good, mark my words, and might even be a 20-10 player. But saying he is better than Yao is like saying Allan Houston is better than Clyde Drexler was. Close, but no cigar.</div> Ima add to that, Yao has a shot, I think you are underrating Yao. He doesn't have stamina, but he will build that. And as a matter of fact, I know you aren't tryin to be racist, but that was a little racist. Its not the fact thats hes Chinese and NBA, what about Wang Zhi-Zhi? Think about it. How about the fact that hes 7'6 and hes 23 years old?
Great work guys in hammering that joke of a suggestion. Yao gets tired because he plays a LOT of basketball. This guy has not had time off on a long time. During the off season he still plays a lot of basketball overseas. Doubt that trend will change anytime soon.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting P_Stojakovic16:</div><div class="quote_post">kwame brown was a big bust for me...i thought with MJ and Jerry Stackhouse around him, that he would be able to develop into a pretty good player IN TIME. I think that he still has plenty of developing to do. Also...Yao Ming has not proved to be as good as he was hyped to be. I know that partly the reason his development has not gone as fast is because of the language barrier. I still give Yao Ming at least 2 years before he's the next star</div> I just wanna personally ask you what you were smoking before you came on and posted this. Yao Ming is the closest thing to stopping shaq right now, and is the #2 center in the league hands down...Yao has a lot of adjusting to do ( language barrier and culture) and when he gets his comfort level set, he will then be able to be aggressive and dominate, right now he's still trying to see where he fits in, and is precautious of a lot of things on the court as you can see in the games. He's too humble on the court and doesn't look for the rock as much as he should...He will one day dominate the league..and be MVP and rockets will win the championships within the next 5 years..thats coming from a die hard celtics fan...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting sunsfan1357:</div><div class="quote_post">Wasn't Todd Fuller a lottery pick? How's that for bad.</div> Fuller did drop 30 on Duncan when they were in college...seriously
worst draft pass-ups and lottery picks most recently would be detroit passin up melo for DARKO, but darko could pan out as a could pick in the future, but 12 teams passed on kobe(iverson, shareef abdur-rahim, marbury, antoine walker and ray allen were about the only good ones besides)... in 97 besides san antonio drafting tim duncan 8 teams passed up t-mac for players like van horn, billups, antonio daniels, tony battie, ron mercer, ADONAL FOYLE...... nick van exel was a 2nd round pick (37th overall)..... but obviously the biggest draft FLOP of all time was portland selecting SAM BOWIE with the 2nd pick and letting that jordan kid go off and have a pretty nice career with chicago
^ as was Booooooze I respect what Darko can do with the ball, but he will have to be a superstar for Detroit fans to stop thinking of "what could have been"
Detroit has already explained their reasoning, an 18 year old 7'0 guy who is still growing and has a variety of skills is always a good pick. Everyone knew Darko would be a project and not an immediate impact guy, but it didn't make him less wanted. Also Detroit wasn't even a lottery team, they were a playoffs team, so Melo wasn't needed. The other thing is that if they got Melo he wouldn't win them a championship this year, next year or the year after that, but if Darko develops in 3 years like they planned, he can win them Championships. The future will be Darko and Yao's then. Micheal Redd going 2nd round, but he wasn't that great then, but he worked very vry hard. In college his money play wasn't the jumpshot, he was a pretty good but at times shaky shooter, but we said to be atheletic and have a decent first step, therefore good at getting to the basket. Carlos Boozer was just stupidness on people's parts Gilbert Arenas was probably the worst of all, amazing player but people said he won't really have a position, thats garbage. I don't think passing on Kobe was anything big, then highschool guys weren't as popular to pick, but they were breaking into the league. He also was a hardworking player in getting to the position he's in right now. Same thing for T-mac basically. Nick Van Exel was know as a bad guy, thats why he went low. Randolph also dropped b/c of his reputation "We wish Jordan were 7-feet, but he isn't. There just wasn't a center available. What can you do? Jordan isn't going to turn this franchise around. I wouldn't ask him to. He's a very good offensive player, but not an overpowering offensive player." -- Rod Thorn after selecting Michael Jordan in the 1984 NBA Draft

Not an overpowering offensive player, he just came into the league averaging 28.2 PPG for some reason... YEAH!!
How about Rashard Lewis: invited into the green room, then shedding tears as every team in the first round passed on him. Houston were planning to take him, but took Bryce Drew instead.
how about olden polynice was traded for scottie pippen on draft day! lololol booz is a big one...i remember thinking on draft day, that i couldnt believe he slipped to the 2nd round. but still never thought he'd turn out to be as good as he is, and as good as hes still going to become. antonio davis is another 2nd rounder that turned out pretty good pierce was a 1st rounder, but slipping to the 10 spot is kinda ridiculous for him, but there have been plenty of late 1st round sleepers. how about brad miller...he was never even drafted...he played in italy, then signed with charlotte i think in 99 same with ben wallace...never even got drafted
Dennis Rodman was a second round pick. One bad draft day that sticks out for me was the draft when Carlos Boozer went in the second round. Utah were sure they were picking him up the draft day, it came to their pick and he was available. But because of a bad trial just before the draft (turns out he had the flu), they passed on him and traded for Curtis Borchardt. Now, Boozer is putting up sick numbers and is a huge part of the Cavs success (if you can call it that). Borchardt, on the other hand in one a 3 quarter seasons has probably played 20 games. The rest he was injured.
-Amare Stoudemire being selected 10th in the 2002 draft -Jamaal Magloire being selected 19th in 2000 -Vince Carter being selected 5th in 1998 over Antawn Jamison, Bibby, LaFrentz, and Kandi -AK47 being selected 24th in 1999 -Dwyane Wade going 5th
The 2 current players that come to mind is Mike Finley (drafted 21pick) in 1995 and Sam Cassell(drafted 24pick) in 1993. But there were some major contributers on championship teams that got passed over. Stephen Jackson was drafted in the second round by the Suns in 1997 but he never made their regular season roster. So he went to play overseas & ended up making the Nets roster in 200o. And won the chip last year with the Spurs. And Derek Fisher was drafted late 1st round (1996) but he was a huge contributor to the Lakers 3 championships.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dwyane Wade going 5th </div> lol its was just so hard for him with Lebron, Milicic and Carmelo and Toronto didn't need a PG as much as a big man.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Accord:</div><div class="quote_post">-Amare Stoudemire being selected 10th in the 2002 draft </div> Amare actually went ninth to the Suns and Caron Butler was Miami's tenth pick. One of the worst pass-ups by team managements include Tracy McGrady who went ninth to the Raps... some of the guys selected before him were Antonio Daniels (4th) and Tony Battie (5th). Jermaine O'Neal saw 16 guys selected ahead of him in the 1996 draft... and of course Kobe Bryant went 13th to then Charlotte Hornets before being traded to the Lakers. Gilbert Arenas was selected in the second round (pick?) before going all mad, saying "did I pick up a gun and shoot someone?" Some of the worst lottery picks are Pervis Ellison (1st pick, ?), Shawn Bradley (2nd pick, 1993), Joe Smith (1st pick, 1995), Michael Olowokandi (1st pick, 1998), Kwame Brown (1st pick, 2001). Of these worst picks, the one that STILL has a chance or the best chance to prove all of us haters wrong is the last one, Kwame Brown. The knock on this kid's game has always been inconsistency but I think his recent plays have been much more consistent than ever.
Kobe Bryant can't be considered. Before the draft he said he would only go to New York or LA, otherwise he would spend the season overseas (or at Duke, IIRC). Charlotte bit the bullet and selected him, but ended up trading Bryant's rights for Vlade Divac. New Jersey were actually considering selecting Kobe, but ended up passing him up for Kerry Kittles. Everyone else was scared off...
^ That's interesting, I kept hearing about this... but from his book "Kobe", Kobe said he never said this and during the draft day his agent basically asked him if he wanted to play for the Lakers. Obviously, Kobe said "yes" but he also said he never ruled out to play for these two teams only. Had there been no trade between both teams he said he would basically be a Hornet then and posibbly still. Maybe it was true and Kobe was just trying to sound politically right.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting PupMelo:</div><div class="quote_post">Maybe it was true and Kobe was just trying to sound politically right.</div> Bingo.
