<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Apparently, Warriors point guard Nick Van Exel made a New Year's resolution.

``I've got to be selfish,'' Van Exel said Thursday. ``I've got to be more selfish than I have been in the past. I think if I play well, the team is going to play well. I plan on being just a little bit more selfish, not just to score but to make plays for the team.''

Eighteen hours earlier, after the Warriors had lost to the New Jersey Nets 88-70, Van Exel complained about the team's offense and his role in it, saying: ``Pass and cut. Pass and cut. That's what I'm going to do. Pass and cut.''

On Wednesday, Van Exel, who went scoreless in 18 minutes against the Nets, was critical of Coach Eric Musselman's open offense, which is predicated on player and ball movement. He said the system, which is less about set plays and more about continuity, stifles his playmaking.

Change of day, change of mind. Van Exel will get an opportunity to show off his new mindset today when the Warriors play the Washington Wizards at the MCI Center.

It will be interesting to see how he plays tonight. It is very simple, if NVE doesn't score, we won't win.

He was more selfish, but it didn't turn out to the Warriors favor. Yes he missed A LOT of shots, but I would rather him take those rather than just passing it away.

I know that Nick's an important part of the offense, but I don't want it to get to the point where the Warriors live and die by the way he plays. So far, it's been like that.

Excellent point, I don't think you can depend on a guy like Van Exel to bring you wins all the time. Yeah, he's a great scorer, and sometimes he will have to carry the load and lead this team to victory's. But then again, Warriors have about what, 13, 14 wins? And Van Exel's season high is only 29 points and he's only scored 20+ twice this season in his 23 games played this season.

What about 'I Am Slam' Richardson? Isn't he a capable scorer when it's needed? Or Dunleavy? Is Nick The Quick the lone cat to hold it down when it matters most? I don't get to watch alot of west coast games, but I was under the impression that J-Rich was a good shooter.

He is the only one playing real good basketball for the Warriors right now. I would like to see the offense run through him.

Jrich is kinda easy to shut down when you double team him. I think if they make him a forward and put in Pietrus as shooting guard it'd be something awesome to watch.
