my friend is a huge lakers fan and i was over his house to watch the game. he was all excited about payton and all but who would have known that in the end it would be the man who replaced payton (ray allen) as the icon in seattle winning the game, showing that the seattle supersonics are now his team. "KeyArena was buzzing from the opening tip Friday with Gary Payton and the Lakers in town, and Ray Allen brought that excitement to a crescendo in the closing minutes of the Sonics' 111-109 win. Allen's jumper with 1:48 remaining put Seattle ahead by four; then, with the game tied, he drained a three-pointer with 36.9 seconds to go. After Kobe Bryant's three knotted it again, Allen's driving layup with 5.8 ticks left won it." - NBA.com thats was a heck of a preformance i was wondering what you guys thought about the game(maybe shaq being sidelined with the calf helped too).
If Shaq had not gotten injured, the Lakers would've won. How did the Lakers expect to win with the bigman combo of Horace Grant and Medvedenko?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting the MDE:</div><div class="quote_post">If Shaq had not gotten injured, the Lakers would've won. How did the Lakers expect to win with the bigman combo of Horace Grant and Medvedenko?</div> Thats a very bold statement considering Sonics were winning or from what I remember very close when Shaq was still in there.Lakers played harder with Shaq out...It give Kobe and Payton the chance to try and take over the game when other times that wouldn't of happened. But hey your excuse is better than the "They were lucky" speech... Lakers are missing Malone a lot more than I thought...

Slava and Horace can carry the load for awhile, but they are no Shaq and Malone. ARGH! Oh well, the Lakers are still on top of the league for now.

He had the mind set that he had to take over for them to win, and he did, but the Lakers just fell short. Same with GP, have to get props to Ray Allen. What is this, his 5th, 6th game? Looks like he's been out their all season, he shot the lights out.
I don't think you can say Ray stole the show cause Kobe played just as well IMO. And if Shaq played the doesn't mean they would of won. Cause Kobe prolly wouldn

Ray played great...but the main reason the lakers lost was their inability to play adequate team defense. With the game on the line, Allen got to the rim unobstructed. Allen just kept using picks to free himself, and the rotation was just terrible.

How did the Lakers expect to win with the bigman combo of Horace Grant and Medvedenko?</div> When will you actually admit the Lakers lost, fair and square? You always make up an excuse for their losses...sorry the Lakers can't go 82-0. Even when Shaq was in the game, the Lakers looked shaky. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting :</div><div class="quote_post">I don't think you can say Ray stole the show cause Kobe played just as well IMO. He got 35 points and 9 assists, and the most important thing: The win. Now you say Kobe played just as well? Yes, he had a great game, i'll give you that. Compare teams for a minute, you are starting to sound like the MDE. Ray Allen carries a bigger bulk, unlike Kobe. Ray Allen doesn't have GP to set him up for the easy baskets. It's pretty simple though, all that matters in the NBA is W's. Ray brought his team to just that.

I said having a point guard like GP sure has its benefits. Ray Allen doesnt have that, plain and simple.

Jerome James? Vitaly Potapenko? Calvin Booth? Seattle rank bottom in the league in rebounding when HEALTHY. That's a very poor excuse. Kings are top now.
I personally think if Shaq played, Lakers would've lost by more. This game was played and won on the perimeter. Shaq has minimal effect on these types of games. And like someone metioned earlier, Kobe wouldn't have caught fire. Give Seattle credit, they outshot the lakers...
