The injury flared up after bothering O'Neal earlier this week. He was treated by a trainer before tipoff and at the end of the first quarter. O'Neal returned to play most of the second period, then took himself out 5:06 before halftime.

O'Neal will be evaluated Saturday. His status for Sunday's game against the crosstown Clippers was unknown.

Shaq will probably miss at least 7 games, and Malone is on the injured list, so it'll be a while.

If people can't beat the Lakers now, then it's a damn shame. They're a shallow team.

True they'll be missing blocking and boarding ability. It's a chance for them to humble down in my opinion. Shaq has been speaking kind of out of line as of late, or even always for that matter. Malone, he tries too hard, he should loosen up, he's always too serious and tense about the games, like KG and Artest. They're the best serious ballers. Hopefully it won't end up like a TMac situation with them, needing them.

I have to disagree with you. The Lakers still have two stars that can light it up at any time. It will be easier than before for teams to beat the Lakers, but I wouldn't say it is a "damn shame" if a team doesn't beat the Lakers. All this means is we can expect Kobe to get big numbers for the next few games that Shaq doesnt play and Payton will get to play more minutes and score more points. Teams will not give the Lakers the proper respect they deserve just because they are now missing Shaq along with Malone, and because of this they will get burned.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with AllBoutDaPacers. Lakers still do have a superstar backcourt, and expect Kobe to break out while Shaq is out. This is one thing Kobe wants to prove, that he and the Lakers can pick up wins without Shaq, it hasn't been like that in the past, but we also didn't have Gary Payton. Yes, it will be easier but don't expect us to back down to teams.

Naw man, Malone isn't on the injured list. At least not yet.

Oh c'mon on...Lakers still have two future hall of famers being the best backcourt in the NBA....one of the best two players at their position.Lakers are still damn good even without Shaq and Malone...They are lacking in the frontcourt....but their backcourt is so damn good the weak frontline will be made up for the guard play...

if malona and shaq are out then this is what i would like for our starting lineup:
    C Horace Grant [IMG]
    PF Slava
    SF Devean
    SG Kobe
    Pg Payton
that lineup probably wont beat a team like the kings but it will definitely beat the clippers [IMG]

If Grant is in the lineup I hope he fills in the big shoes of shaq and Malone. I hope they get better soon but we can only hope for the best for the Lakers.

How can that definetley beat the Clippers? Clippers have 2 beasts inside in Wilcox and Brand who will eat at Grant and Slava. It will be a close game, my prediction is a toss up, Clips are no push over team, it will be a close one.

Thats the sad thing,SOME people think the Clippers are still the same crap team and franchise they have been for years. However that certainly isn't the case this season..Not only are they winning games but their franchise is heading in the right direction with the current young and coming stars they have on that team

It is annoying when people look at the Clippers and think they are still a terrible team just because their name is the "Clippers"
