Phoenix have done well out of this in my opinion. They shed a substancial amount of cap room, nab a couple of first rounders and two very promising youngsters (remember Lampe was touted as a top 5 pick at one point, and Vujanic has often been called best player not in the NBA).

Remember when Marbury forced a trade from Minny to get closer to home in NJ? This reeks of the same situation, and I have never liked Marbury's attitude. Bravo to the Suns for having the guts to pull this one.

I just noticed the two first round draft picks were included. This is starting to make a bit more sense to me.

Phoenix just solved their entire cap situation with this trade.

I think this trade came down to Phoenix not thinking they could win a championship with what they had. So they ship away Marbury and Hardaway to get players with more favorable contracts and some draft picks. Lets look at this for a second. Here is what Phoenix got:

    1. Antonio McDyess - Contract expires after this year
    2. Charlie Ward - Contract expires after this year
    3. Howard Eisley - He has two years left making around 6.5-7 million then a team option. I believe the Suns would decline that option in 06-07.
    4. Maceij Lampe - After this year he earns 1.9 million over two seasons. Low risk, high reward player.
    5. Rights to Milos Vujanic - Low risk, high reward player
    6. Two first round draft picks
    7. Cash

At first I really thought Phoenix was screwed however this trade is actually good. They are going to build their team around Stoudamire and Marion. They don't have any cap problems as of now, they have money to max out Stoudamire in a few years, and they can go after a few key free agents.

Just to let you know, Hardaway was set to make roughly $31 million total in 04/05 and 05/06 and Marbury was set to make over $91 million from next year till 08/09.

In the long run, I think Phoenix might have gotten the upperhand in this deal.

Word out of NY is that your owner is etremely upset with the make up of the currents suns. And is looking to competely clean house. They say that Marion and/or Amare might be on the trade block as well. Iam just wondering is thier any truth to these rumors in sunsville & if so who are the possible teams interested in those 2 players.

Ward will likely be waived before the 9th of january.Otherwise the Suns would be stuck with an extra load of cash with his contract

Now that one I can't understand. Marion has never done anything but perform for that Franchise, and has a good attitude on and off the court. Stoudamire is the reigning ROY and has been injured this season. I can understand trading Marbury because his attitude has often been questioned, but the other two? That make no sense.

I dont know why they would trade those 2 either. But thats just what they said one the MIke & the Mad dog show. Theydidnt say it was 100%, thats why if i was asking suns fans, was there any truth to this story. But the only reason I could see the Suns trading them. Is as a package deal to get a franchise player like Mcgrady who was one the trade block a while back.

Now for my take on PHXs perspective.

This is a good trade for Cap space, but now iu think the suns will tank. I was betting them to make playoffs this year, buuuuttt...i dunno anymore

Do you guys see NY resigning Penny or do you think they'll not even attempt it after the season's over? That is if I'm correct in thinking Penny's contract is up after the season.

He has a player option after this season for two more years. It would be absolutely stupid for him not to except this. Next year he will make $14,625,000 and the year after he will make $15,750,000 if he accepts the option.

There is no way NY will resign him after his contract expires.

I like this trade for the Suns. Remeber the get 2 first round picks. Including this year's, which should be a lottery pick. Not to mention they get rid of Penny's god-awful contract. Ward will be cut by Jan 15 which will free-up 4 million. Maciej Lampe will be a good high post center very soon and can help the Suns this year. Dice's 13 million dollar contract is off the books this summer so they have cap room and tons of good young talent in Lampe, Vujanic, Barabosa, Carbarkapa, Stoudamire and Marion.

The talent in the front-court is very high, and given a year (maybe 2) the PG position will be a strenght once again as well with Barabosa getting a chance to prove himself this season (with marbury gone) and Vujanic having the ability to make a big impact his first year in the league.

I'm not exactly sure how much cap room they will have this summer but for a team with 2 stars (stoudamire and Marion) and an excess of young talent (Vujanic, Lampe, Carbarkapa, Barabosa) and two first rounders from NY, they have the ability to grab a marquee player through free-agency or sign and trade.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting purehoops:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes make sense... AS caliber player, top 15, for a benchie. Cap or not... this team last year was a few shots away from a 2nd round apperance and a good draft pick away from being very dangerous in the west. I am very dissapointed.</div>

Very true, that's why it is sad to see the Suns come out like this. They were already underachieving before Amare got hurt, but after that everything went bad. And like you said, if they continued their not so good play this year, they could have drafted a nice player, and could have been dangerous indeed. I still want to know why they did this, after it's all said and done, it's not as bad as it seems, but this deal made no sense IMO. And since you traded a all-star PG, you might as well stick Amare at the 5, and put Mcdyess at the 4.

Edit: dexter, just read your post. Trade makes a lot more sense, thanks for clearing that up, but I still would have held on to Marbury, just my opinion.

According to the Links on SLAMonline, there isn't even an article on there about this trade going through. You see, the thing about ESPN is that they're very slow.

I think that this trade is good to both teams, but NY got the upper hand. By trading Mcdyess, Zeke gets to develop Mike Sweetney and free up a point guard space. Phoenix gets to pick two more youngsters to build around a future core of Marion, Stoudemire, Carbakapa, Vujanic and Barbosa(the last two might not be part of it). I just can't wait for the game on Thursday!!

I have a feeling that Phoenix is going to use the picks to draft more Europlayers to form a younger version of the Mavs. Anyone with me?

The Suns will have roughly about 8 million in cap room. And that's not even if they resign anyone. If they resign someone like Dice they could only end up with about 3 or 4 mil in cap. Which is basicly nothing now a days. I don't agree with this trade really.
